New car.

Since my dad is only thinking of spending around 30k on a car I thought I should get a 2001 M3. What do you guys think?

I heard the RX-8 had identical track times as the M3 and 350z

^^^ehh im too lazy to say something about it :p

how old are you? if you dont have a steady income dont get M3, BMW warranty rocks because all the maintenance is free, but once its out... which it should be running out for all 2001 cars, the cost is exorbitant. insurance is insane too, if you can handle it then go for it, its a great car.

If my daddy tried to buy me a used car I'd slap him in the face with a halibut.

If he's only dropping $30k on you, get an 8. Nothing better for under $30k.

How old are you? Do you know how to drive stick? How many years have you been driving?

2001 M3 is a good choice, 'cept that it would be hard to find one in good condition with low miles for that price.

If this is your first car, get a used standard transmission Accord or something.

if you get an 01 M3, make sure the recall was done on the main bearings. The had a problem with those. Another thing, get ready to pay $9 for a quart of oil. The only place you can get the specify oil (if you want to keep the warranty) is at a BMW dealer.

You could pick up a hardly used 2005 GTO for that price. May even be able to find a left over new 2005 GTO. Or wait a few months and be able to haggle down to 30k for a new 2006 GTO.

Sorry, but I'm about to get a new GTO and can't stop thinking about it.

I was hoping that the M's had better quality control and therefore better reliability.

for 30 grand? I'd take a 993 series 911. Preferably turbo, but that would be out of your range...

Check them out:

sure beats the hell out of an M3...the Porsche of all Porsches.

If I was going to spend $30k for a sports car, I would get a 94 NSX. Relibility of an Accord with the performance and look to go with it.

Or you dad can buy my RX-8

tell your dad to spend 15k on a fwd shitbox and the other 15k in track time and driving lessons before dumping 30k on a sports car for a novice driver.

Good luck with that. You're not going to find a 993TT for 30 grand unless it's beat all to hell or salvaged.

yes, but you can find base carreras for close to it. I said that the turbo was preferred but said it was out of his range.
