Yeah, according to Clarkson on Top Gear the RX-8, M3 and Z run their track (with corners ) in exact same time. 1.minute 31.09seconds.

I don't mind BMW's, but are you sure about this? I drove my friend's M3 for a while and while it was nice, I don't think it compare to my FI RX-8. The M3 is a sporty sedan. But my car (with RB swaybars) has less body roll, felt more connected to the road, and my car is faster, while costing less than his.
No one choice is the absolute best, but be sure you are really evaluating the platform before you just assume it's good due to brand name or marketing hype.
