Guy's' & Girl's, it's probably been sitting on the dealers showroom floor for past 10 years, should be OK. However i'll stick with my new RX-8. imagine it might need new tires.

I think they were referring to this particular FD, not FD's in general. The idea is that a blue/tan auto FD is not desirable.

No, here's the quote: "The FD is hardly collectible and especially not in that trim."

Maybe it's not going to be a collectible, I'm just questioning where the rationale comes from to dismiss it as not being one.

blue/tan is desirable--the auto FD is not as desireable; even though the auto FD's performance was on par with 350Zs and G35s. Also the auto FD had a rudimentary version of manual shift.--The Montego Blue/Tan combo was one of the better looking combos out there--as far as colors are comcerned it is up to peoples opinion we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. The FD will definately be a collectors item--as Competition Yellow Mica Examples are already appreciating in value--especially since there were fewer than 3,000 imported. My 93 FD was Montego Blue auto--but I had done some mods to it and it was just as fast as a 5speed; I would not pay $37,000 for this auto FD--if it was a 5speed I definately would go for it.

Some day it may be, but like I said, right now it's just a 10 year old car, and that car isn't going to be one of the desirables ones for any reason besides low miles should it become collectible . As of right now its competitors from the time seem to be bringing in more money as well, the Supra TT in particular.

My dad owns a car dealership and purchased a 1993 Dodge Viper RT/10 with 230 miles in 1996 for about 48,000 (MSRP was 76,000 or something I think) keeping it under the dealers license and it just sat in the gargage until 2002. He and I drove it to the drag strip, about a 200 mile trip a couple times to watch the races and that was about it, it only got pulled out maybe once or twice a year, we sold it for about 52,000 in 2002 with 900 miles on it. The car was just like buying one brand new, engine was perfect.

I bought 6 cars at this dealership and always saw this car in the showroom, it was the Dealership owner's car. He never drove it, those 145 miles or so that i has are the miles that he put on it to go drive it around so it wouldnt break down from lack of use. It was the last FD that the dealership had in 95 and the owner of the dealership decided to buy it for himself and just keep in in the showroom. Its in Immaculate condition, it was always locked and nobody could get in it or even get close to it. only prob is that it is automatic. He was once offered 80k for the car and he declined it.

No warranty, just called our Mazda dealership and they stated that after one year regardless of the fact the car has been titled or not the warranty starts to tick... This would be a liability for any manufacturer otherwise...

If it is a 95 at the begining of the 97 model year the warranty started...

If this is true (highly doubt it is), the owner is a grade "A" moron!!!

Right before the intro of the RX8--Jeff Haas of Jeff Haas Mazda here in Houston was selling his 95 Silverstone FD 5spd with 3,000 miles on the clock for $35,000 on the showroom floor--there were already 3 offers on it.

If the car is being sold as new then the owner purchased the car just like he purchases all the other cars the dealership sells, its hardly a personal car as it was just owned under the dealers license. I doubt he was ever offered $80K for it, $50K profit? No dealership owner I have ever met (which is a lot) would turn that down. You could buy a brand new 2002 RX-7 and import it from japan for that much.

A lot less than 3000 CYM's were imported considering only about 13,000 RX-7s total were imported to the USA.

Trash and Icemastr, seriuosly what gain would I get out of lying? This is the truth, the Dealership Owner wanted it as a collector since it had been discontinued in the US. Many people wanted to buy it and he always declined their offers. It wasnt about the 50k profit, he is VERY VERY well off he doesnt need it. To him it was just a collector's item and a conversation piece to any potential Mazda Buyer at his dealership.

Interestingly with a potential market of millions of buyers, it did not sell, or at least the reserve was not met.

Tommy my statement wasn't directed to you per say, but to the owner. If at one time he was offered 80k but declined and now posting it on ebay with a high reserve what else would you call it?

The auction ended at 37k and "Reserve not met".....WTF that is a VERY GENEROUS amount for a 10 year old car w/ no warranty and known issues with the FD.

He will never and I mean never see 80k for the car...hell he's lucky that he even got 37k!!! I still stand by my statement the owner is a grade "A" moron.

Beyond that I doubt the 37k bid was even real, hell any of us could go around bidding on high dollar itmes on Ebay with a reserve and never actually win any of them...

Personally i think he was a moron also....but the story is true, last time i was at the dealership was like 4 years ago so maybe the thought of no Rotary again in the US was the appeal for that idiot that offered him 80k

It didn't sell, so they re-listed it with a reserve and a higher starting bid.

Just for grins I checked the NADA price, High retail would be just over $21,000 for this car. Now I could see an extra $5k because it has never been titled, but that would be about the extent of it. A car is worth as much as someone will pay for it when it comes to classic and collectible cars, so we'll see what happens.

I have seen several for sale in the $25K range...with lotsa extra goodies...

$40k starting is too much, I think it's worth maybe $30 tops...

The original auction ended with only 1 bid ($37k, reserve not met). They raised it to $40k (reserve not met) and keep re-listing it at that price. It's also listed on autotrader.com for $50k.

They put out a 'For Sale' sign with an insane price. I don't think they're hot on selling it. They're just hoping for a fool with money. It's already sat in their showroom for 9 years, what's the rush now?

damn it's stupid auto... if it's manual I might consider about it.. but.. what's wrong with the price ?! just about stupid.. I can bought a cobra with that price.. and just a little mod can get about 450hp..or a 2-hand z06. that's just don't make any sense to buy that.!!

Not for that price. In the auto FDs defense it is still a quick car. 0-60 on a stock auto FD is in the 5.7-6.0sec range. With BPU it can easily be a mid to high 13 second car. If the auto RX8 had performance in sneezing range at an auto FD it would sell in numbers comparable to the 6spd. From a tuner standpoint the only reason to get an auto FD is to replace the 13B with an LS1.
