New 95 RX-7. For real?

I saw this listed on eBay. It sounds crazy to me.

Never titled 95 RX-7, 148 miles

cgrx 11-01-2004 06:51 PM

Wow

bowman 11-01-2004 06:59 PM

I did some more looking and found the dealer's site here. They're listing it as new at the original MSRP.

09Factor 11-01-2004 07:00 PM

Even though it's "new" 37 g's is a lot to ask for a 9 year old car. Even if its a 7.

bowman 11-01-2004 07:04 PM

That $37k is the starting price and the reserve has not been met. Their website lists $40k, which was the original MSRP.

If it's still new, does it still have the factory warranty?

mysql101 11-01-2004 07:04 PM

Soon as someone buys it, it becomes used, and not worth any more than the other 9 year old rx-7's.

also, 9 years can do a lot of damage to things, especially when it's sitting around not doing anything. I saw it every year when i went from overseas to kansas and all my motorcycles had problems starting up even though the tanks were empty and they were kept on blocks.

also, it's an automatic.

PetersonPeleRx8 11-01-2004 07:07 PM

Ya no joke... this makes me think... What is the stock horsepower on that car? I've only heard of the HP numbers on RX-7's modded.

greese 11-01-2004 07:13 PM

what about any recalls or tsb's on it? I would assume none have been done. Imagine the look the dealer would give you when you you show up wanting the work done.

Astor 11-01-2004 07:19 PM

I think stock FD was 255 HP 217 torque
Sitting around like that things are bound to be wrong, however a lot of collectors buy cars like that and never title them, I know a couple of people with Vipers in their very large garages that have never been driven and never titled.

bowman 11-01-2004 07:20 PM

Dealer lists:
255hp @ 6500
217lb/ft @ 5000

mysql101 11-01-2004 07:21 PM

maybe the collector had it in a sealed temp regulated room. It could be perfect.

I would be shocked if it was a collector that had it. If it was he's a fool for buying that car rather than an RX-7 with different trim and color, or better yet a totally different car.

mysql101 11-01-2004 07:37 PM

what i don't understand is, the second pic shows the window sticker clearly stating the car is a 5 speed manual. the photos show an auto though

bowman 11-01-2004 07:47 PM

There are some inconsistencies. The eBay ad lists the car as an auto and the interior picture concurs. The window sticker and the dealer website lists it as a 5sp. The window sticker shows that the car was sold to Marlin Mazda (the dealer that is selling it now).

Ike 11-01-2004 07:58 PM

It also lists the 4 speed automatic as a $900 option. Just a guess but I bet all FDs were listed as 5 speed manual and then if it was an automatic it was added into the optional equipment list.

m477 11-01-2004 08:06 PM

Montego Blue/Tan and automatic has to be the least desirable configuration possible for the FD. No one was willing to pay $40k for it in 1995, and I doubt anyone will pay anything near that today. I bet that the dealer will eventually give up trying to find a buyer and just put it back in storage for another 10 years.

However, if the dealer had been smart enough in 1995 to stow away a silver r2 instead, there's actually a small chance someone out there would be willing to pay the crazy high price.

I think you're right.

(I didn't think to check the options, I don't consider auto/manual xmsn an option.)

Edit: And I think MB/Tan is the best color combo for an FD.

MELRX8 11-01-2004 08:23 PM

I couldn't find the 60/40 rear seat!

Ike 11-01-2004 08:38 PM

I'm with M477, I think it's just about the worst combo possible for an FD. I didn't like that color when it was new and I like it even less now.

DreRX8 11-01-2004 08:44 PM

That looks alot like my 93 FD--and you are wrong M477--they probably will get $37K for it because it is still nearly a collectors item. And Montego Blue/Tan was one of the best color combos for the FD.

Ike 11-01-2004 08:55 PM

The FD is hardly collectible and especially not in that trim. All it is now is a 10 year old car with really low miles that no one will be able to get financing on. Who the hell is going to buy a 95 RX-7 AT outright for 40k, even with 5 miles on it?

Kart Racer 11-01-2004 09:02 PM

its too high of a price I agree. I had a 94FD, Vintage racing Red on black interior R2 with all the goodies. I really never liked the tan interior, and i even more so didnt like the red interior, never really looked good to me. I would love a "new" FD that has been un touched, but when comparing the price of that car to other 2004 model cars, i dont know if its worth it. or at least in that trim level, like everyone else said

RXE16T 11-02-2004 02:06 AM

What it fails to mention is that the car has never been registered, instead it was only used for track racing over the last 10 years. :)

The kms quoted are from when the motor was last rebuilt and the panel work is fresh because its just been resprayed. :)

The interior is brand new because all the trim was originally removed and race seats were fitted. :)

If it was a manual and if this was in Australia, I'm know plenty of people who would jump on it straight away.

Got that right! Usually your are gong to have major problems with the seal in the engine. I wouldn't pay more than 20k for this car.

Red Devil 11-02-2004 09:03 AM

Why would the FD be ruled out as a collector car? Who said it, Ike? Low production numbers in North America and a cult following aren't a bad start.
