New 2012 Mustang Boss 302
Mustang IS a serious contender
While some of the paint/body changes are not to my liking, the 2011 GT is a serious contender. I've driven it...and the engine is quite addictive. The sound is fantastic, at least for this guy who grew up around muscle cars. Think it can't cut it on the track? Think again. It's comparable to an M3:

When I can get one a couple of years old at the same price I paid for my R3 last week...I'll be eyeing them a little closer. I might even get over the lack of back doors.

Paul.
yall are looking at the laguna version maybe?
There is a LOT more to the Boss than meets the eye. Its one hell of a car and good luck just trying to buy one this year.
Do your research on the Boss before any judgement is passed.
And I have never been a Mustang guy.

I've always thought of Mustangs like roaches, they're everywhere, and they're pretty ugly to look at. But...
It's Ford's 'sports sedan' these days,
at least they offer an affordable sport car in 2011.
Ford is making them perform under the skin, despite their looks.
It apparently can best an M3 around Laguna Seca min >1 sec., stock, nothing to sneeze at.
List$, this Boss is ~1/2 the price of an M3.
It won't impress the rich w/track toys on the grid, but they might respect it by session end.
Comparable performance anywhere else would cost what ... like starting at $80K and up?
Credit where credit is due.

Comon guys...this IS a polished jewel, at least in the Mustang stable... a real honest track car. Someone at Ford (who is unfortunately color, decal, and style blind) at least knows how to set a car up for the track, and not just for a 'fun run', but to serve real justice on just about any car it might cross paths with.
The Luguna Seca package is the spit polish on the jewel with splitter, rear seat delete and brace, adjustable track shocks (!), Brembo brakes, exhaust cutout, and more...right from the factory!
With a repaint/decal delete, this is something I could gladly warm up to.....
Kudos to Ford! And the price......Nice!!!!

The suspension doesn't look like that of a sports car though.
Also noting the space that goes from the tail to the wheel axles says the rest.
Shall we mention the chassis? Where's it?

Sure it has got the power but...
This is how a sports car suspension should look:

I'm not disliking the car, it's just that i can't buy into the hype of such marketing exploits!
dont forget they have made the leaf spring suspension work on the Corvette.
Ford is making the live axle concept work---each has its own strenghts and weakness.
I do hear ya though.

Porsche has the engine positioned in behind the rear axle as well, with the whole exhaust...
Audi did the same for a very long time, in the front.
That's why Porsches were widow makers (and still are) and why most of the commercial audis didn't handle as they were supposed to!
Keep in mind where i'm from, too. The 'vette isn't considered the holy monster that you praise, here. It's just a powerful sports car that lacks in the handling compartment! (Even if being better than a viper... i've sadly driven both a fist gen viper, a c5 and c6 z06 and can confirm that (against a 430 scuderia or a gt3 rs).
Considering that power sells, there, it will be a blast anyway

If they call this a Muscle car (which Rustang always are) I will have no complains.
Sports car? hmm, gimme a break
Speaking of Viper, rofl. they just dump a truck engine into an ugly body and call it a "sports" car ... lol FTMFL.

Vettes are sportscars sold for cheap since the pricetag is the only winning sector for a Chevy vs the other manufacturers

Again, pictures come of help:

That can be barely called a chassis, given the power levels.
This, on the other hand, looks cool:

The 'vette i drove sure was fun and had straight line speed. It cornered acceptably well too, for an american car. However it was scary and unpredictable on the wet and on irregular tarmacs.
Beyond that I'd think there's quite a design difference in construction of a steel car and a fiberglass car.

You're spot on on the material differences, however I picked up the 2 designs because they have the same layout. Front engine, rwd.
Even comparing the mclaren and the 'vette you'll notice how the chevy highly relies on the centre tunnel (lacking the roof) while the mclaren has a "lotus-esque" bathtub design.
The c5 was even worth in that regard:

this is for next month so expect gas to go up by another 20-50 cents a gallon
right now in NYC Regular cost about 3.45-3.70, Premium add 20-30 cents
yay ! we're seeing 4 bux a gallon again ! w00t !
I know someone driving Yukon to get like 10 mpg and less sometimes.
it has lots of torque also it weight like 2 tons. so that cancels itself out.
I wasn't really meaning to single out the 5.0. It pretty much goes for all the "affordable" sports cars we always talk about on here. I guess you could consider it the final nail in the coffin for the renesis and the 8. They can't even give them away without horrible gas prices.
off topic : some station in the city (manhattan) are already selling their gas at 4.3 for regular and 4.57 for Premium.
YUM ! FTMFL !
Some of those oversized SUV people's butt gonna hurt. ouch.

but to ur original question :
Yea if you drive it like a grand ma.
if u drive it the way it supposed to be driven then no you will get around the same MPG as a 8.
but again, if you want mpg. go get yourself a Geo Metro or FIT or a 1990 Civic.
