New 2005 RX-7

I saw in a mag in barnes&nobles that Mazda will be producing the next generation of the RX-7. The RX-8 is indeed not the succesor of the RX-7. They even have a pic of the next gen RX-7. I believe it was in Car & Driver. Anybody saw it?

Yea, it looks alot like the RX8 evolv except it's convertible I think and its 2 seat-2 door. Some people have said that might be the next gen. miata though.

Haris is right. It's the next gen Miata due out in 2005. I wish they would put a rotary in it . Looks like a new Mazda 2.0 litre will be used.

Yeah I saw it, it's in Road and Track page 58 under Ampersand.

It says that the new miata will have a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder powering it with the possibilty of a rotary option.

Then it says, "Speaking of the RX-8, rumors have the 4 door sports car spawning a 2 door convertible called the RX-7. It would be positioned between the miata and RX-8, but likely won't see production till 2006 or 2007."

They have a picture and it doesn't look anything like the original evolv prototype car, if that's what you're talking about.

Interesting...

Maybe the next miate and RX7 will be virtually the same car. The convertible will be called the Miata and the coupe version will be called the RX7 and while the RX7 will come standard with the rotary the Miata will have a rotary option.

Old news is new for some people. Personally I don't mind responding once or twice to same subject threads. Wakeech, I don't know why you bother responding. For the amount of text written about how you "roll your eyes" or "grumble" about a person not using the search option, you could have answered the question and told the person to search for further detail on the subject. Next time, just go to bed.

P.s.- The next Miata will be using their new 2.0litre 4 (which will also be used in the new focus). I know this for sure because we've engineered some of the molds already. A rotary in the Miata is not gonna happen for a very long time.

The FAQ should be made like a License agreement for this forum. Or have a sub page for the forum directing new users to the FAQ. Miata.net's forum uses this, and seems to keep this from happening too often (I've been a user for 6 years). Hopefully the RX-8 will be out very soon, so there is more fact than speculation for allot of subject matter. That's why we see posts like "new RX-7", "X-men car”, "intake?" etc. etc....there's really nothing, other than East Moon's pictures and info, to talk about. In theory, there should only be a FAQ and multimedia gallery. But users are so excited about this car they are willing to talk crap for the next month(s), even on the same subject post as last week.

Just my 2 cents

i would disagree on that point...
there's always the lounge, always new and exciting things... and still, we don't know everything about the car, and can look beyond getting it... even if it is just a pipe dream for some

i dont' mind speculation and conjecture (hey, i do a lot of it too), but when it's the same old thing (months old) 3 or 4 or 5 times over, it's just annoying, that's all.

You never know, sometimes new information will pop up in one of these threads...

Like the facts that the new RX-7 will be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show this fall, in concept form (but close to the production version); that the concept will probably have the RX-8 Renesis but that the production RX-7 (2005 model) will have a 1.5 litre normally aspirated version producing around 300 - 320 hp; that a convertible concept version may be shown in early 2004; that a 6 speed sequential manual transmission will be part of the RX-7 spec; maybe even more!

Regards,
Gordon

Take a look at RotaryNews' Predictions and Speculation story. . .

RX-3, Miata, REPU, RX-7. . . Possibilities. But none will come out if the RX-8 doesn't do well on its own.. meaning no other Rotary Sports cars in the line-up, or maybe even shown, this year.
