well im thinking an 04 with 50k miles would sell for about what you owe on it. So...you sell the car for say 14k, pay off your loan on the car which is 14k and then you are even. You have no rx8 but you dont owe anything either. Then you pic out a new cheaper car and finance that but with much lower payments

If you owed much more than 14k on the car you would be upside down but I think you are ok.

Try selling in classifieds or someone out in the streets . Hopefully you'll break even , pay it off and move on . If you go to a dealership and get something cheaper your still stuck with the difference.

Good Luck .............

Negotiate the price of the new car before you even talk about what trade in value they will give you. Find the average retail for a car in yours' condition and bring that paperwork in with you. Do NOT let them screw you over. Worst case, walk away.

Ok this is horrible but im actually really considering trading in my 8.
Not because I dont like the car or want something faster.
Its because the payment are much too high . And it is keeping me
from saving money and taking school serious since I have to work fulltime
In order to pay my bills..

So what im dealing with is

I still owe 14k.
2004 SS GT 50k miles

was looking at trading in the car for a car priced at around 5-6k.
but not too sure how trade ins work when i still owe so much
was probably thinking an old miata.

But what do you guys think ? Im sure theres people on here that have done
this and i want to know if its even more of a financial burdon since i still
owe more than the car is worth.
or should i take another route????

Was also thinking to refinance but i really dont want to extend the payments. Rather get a cheaper car and payoff fast as possible so i can savemoney for school.

thank you for any input you have on the matter.
OH HELL NO! you ****! if you have to trade it in, you are not gonna get your moneys worth, if you private sell it, than u might get most of the money u still owe on the car....and guess what? You are just in luck because my nephew is looking to buy an 8 soon for Graduation and he might go with me to the Socal beach cruise and if he likes your car, he'll tell his pops (my bigger bro) and possibly will buy it off you because u are local too! Call me or text me....u should still have my number, if not PM me and Ill PM you my numer...ASAP!!! iM SERIOUS ABOUT THIS...Ive been looking in the classified on this FORUM and most are either NORCAL or EAST COAST....Lemme know dude ASAP! Im getting ready to go paintballing so just shoot me a text.

he doesnt want a new car, he wants a used car that gets him from point A to point B, so he can save money for school. If he gets a new car like $15 (altima) his INsurance will eat him still even if his payments are lower.....but its up to him....^I already suggested something up there^^^^

Yeah Miata FTW! Try and find a 99-00 With a LSD. Dont worry so much about the miles miatas take them well. Let us know what happens!

Also see what Carmax will give you for it. You might not get the same price as a private sale, but you'll almost definitely get more than a dealership. They'll appraise it and give you an amount guaranteed for a week, and you can weigh that against other options.

School is your best investment for the world we live in. I say, trade it in for something cheaper, finish your schooling, and then buy another 8 afterward.

Do a part out.....that way I can swap to a 6 spd and I would also buy one of your fenders.......WE'll actually just trade it in dude...its gonna be too much trouble to do a part out unless you do a "Feeler" thread on it to see who would want what outta ur car...Im sure u would be able to sell the part completey apart though!

Try going on to some forums (if you are looking for civic or camry or w/e, go to those forums obviously) and post a trade + cash thread. It will give you a DD and some cash to pay what you owe. That will end up better than trading in.

I think the 99-00 miatas were Lighter then the 94-97. 01+ is a different story. Any luck with the sale yet?

I really enjoyed having my 2000 Miata SE... might try to buy another one...

I would probably get the 1999 10th Anniversary Miata or "10AE". Had the upgraded suspension, limited slip diff, alcantara seats, Nardi steering wheel and shift ****... everybody used to say "but you have chrome wheels" and I would have to correct them. They're polished, and it doesn't add an ounce of weight to the car.

Only problem it had (a bunch of '99 Miatas had this problem for a particular VIN range) was an engine bearing that was the incorrect part that failed prematurely. Most of them were recalled and fixed. It would just be something to look for if you bought one.
