My RX8 gets a consistent 19/20 mpg and my first car a 2000 Civic EX 5spd only got about 28 city 32-33 highway, I drove both the cars the same way.
You hate it huh? I got 10 mpg on the 8 for the first 500 miles. So STFU and leave.

go for a mid 90s Infinity G20. Nice interior and good gas mileage.

My friend likes his mid-90s G20 with five speed manual.

and they should be well within your price range, proteges are just as reliable as Corollas and Civics but cheaper to buy!

I've been thinking of getting another car as well because the 8 is taking a beating right now. It seems they are doing road work on every road/street I take to work. I'm thinking 1st gen rx7 (gslse) or 240z.

Protege MP3, Mazdaspeed Protege or Protege5. I'm a Honda hater... I can't recommend any. Toyota... Zzzz. Sorry. A late 90's 200SX SE-R would be nice... my wife used to have one when we lived in the US.
