Motorcycles:

Any other motorcycle enthusiasts on this forum? I ride a '78 Honda I bought cheap and rescued from oblivion. Put it back together, got it running again.

Once I'm done with college (August! Yes!) I plan on buying a new bike. Either a Honda VFR or a Suzuki SV 1000S. I love Ducatis, but I think I think I need to stick with the every-day reliability, quality and all-around usefulness of Japanese bikes, especially Honda.

So, what bike do you ride? What bike do you lust after? Ever taken any long trips on a motorcycle?

Just thought I'd throw in something a bit different than what I've seen here so far.

Gaz 05-14-2003 07:27 AM

Yes, I'm, I will buy the new CBR600RR

Gaz 05-14-2003 07:30 AM

And I ride a '95 Cagiva Mito 125 for races

joofntool 05-14-2003 08:27 AM

I want a bike bad, just dont have the nards (or cash) atm to make the plunge.

That '95 Cagiva Mito 125 looks sweet tho. Fill me in on the details

Superfan 05-14-2003 09:00 AM

A few months ago I was going to buy a Yamaha R6 but I opted for the RX-8 :D . I do get to ride my friends R6 for a few hours every other week.

Damn, I need a motorcycle. I've always wanted one. But my problem is that I know nothing about motorcycle insurance. I've spoken to a few people but they don't really pay all that much.

Does anyone know how much insurance would be for a guy in southern california.

Right now I like the Suzuki GSXR600

Schneegz 05-14-2003 02:40 PM

A CBR600RR! Sweet! And that Cagiva is awesome too. Must be nice to have something that is so unique.

Speaking of different, I think the new Triumph Daytona 600 is pretty trick, too.

I love the way it looks as though it's grinning insanely. And reports out of Europe say it's right up there with its Japanese counterparts.

Jerome81 05-14-2003 08:59 PM

I've always been a little partial towards Hondas for some weird reason. But as good as that new 600RR is, I seriously think I'd take the new R6.

Sorry Honda.

Schneegz 05-14-2003 11:20 PM

I'd have a hard time picking between the two. Performance-wise they're both out of my league, and so close anyway that either would be great for me. In fact, modern 600cc bikes are all so good and so close to each other in performance that picking one comes down to very subjective criteria, how they FEEL to the individual, and how they LOOK.

I haven't ridden either the CBR600RR or the R6, so I can't say which FEELS better to me. And they're both stunning, especially in black. The R6 with the black paint and red flames is yummy! And the CBR looks absolutely wicked and predatory.

That being said, I need a bike that does it all, because I can only afford one. A 600 that is as sharply focussed as the newest batch just won't do.

But if I had my way, I would buy a sport-tourer:

Honda ST1300 (silver), or
Yamaha FJR1300 (silver)

And one of the following supersports

Honda CBR600RR (black)
Yamaha R6 (black)
Triumph Daytona 600 (silver)

And an RX-8, of course (Ti Grey) :)

Schneegz 05-14-2003 11:51 PM

Here's another pic of that Daytona 600.

RotorGeek 05-14-2003 11:52 PM

I'm a Kawi guy. I have a 95 ZX6-R with a bunch of racing mods.
You guys need to check out the new ZX6r. It is the only 600cc bike with inverted forks and Radial brake calipers in the front. Oh did I mention it is 636cc not just 600cchttp://www.kawasaki.com/admin/upload...zx6r_l_800.jpg

Gaz 05-15-2003 04:33 AM

Gaz 05-15-2003 04:37 AM

Sorry for my poor english

maverikk 05-15-2003 06:45 AM

I used to drive BMW. Love the K. Had a K100LT and a K1100RT though. It's just what I think about the RENESIS: like a turbine! And: It's got ABS (anti lock brakes) which can save you from time to time.... :)

Nice to see a FRENCHMAN on this site: BONJOUR! Loved to drive around in France with the bike and with my MX-3! FUNTASTIC!

Schneegz 05-16-2003 04:29 PM

It's funny how it takes certain technologies a long time to make the jump from cars to bikes. ABS is a good example. Even fuel injection took a long time. It wasn't until THIS year that the Yamaha R6 got fuel injection. The R1 just got it last year. And there are still lots of bikes being produced with carbs. As far as I know, there are no new production cars sold in the US with carbs.

TJRX8 05-16-2003 07:26 PM

Gotta love Motorcycles!! Started on a KZ400 (Kawi) way back when, got a VFR400 in Japan (very sweet bike), then a Nighthawk 750 in 1996.

Not to put a damper on this thread but...had a small accident on my son's KX80, broke my neck, paralyzed and now no more bikes for me.

So what do you guys think of the V-Rod????

RX-Nut 05-16-2003 07:34 PM

I ride a 99 Yamaha YZF-R1.. sorry no pics. I'm sure you can find tons on the Net.

Schneegz 05-16-2003 08:21 PM

TJRX8:

Sorry to hear about your accident and injury, man. Good to know you're still around and still functioning, however.

I'm not really into cruisers, so the V-Rod doesn't really do anything for me. I'm glad Harley is finally doing something new, however. And it seems to be a big hit with cruiser riders, so as long as they're happy, I'm happy for them :)

Toadman 05-17-2003 09:28 AM

I've got an 89 Ninja 600R. It's basically collecting dust in the garage with 12k miles on it but I put it around to charge the battery up.

classicred 05-18-2003 10:16 AM

I have not had a bike for a couple of years now but miss it. I am one of the very few, however, that has owned a rotary engined motorcycle. Suzuki made it 1975-76. I had the first year with wierd styling. It was a terribly unreliable bike which I only kept for one year. It was a single rotor engine with a single spark plug. No one could really work on them so you were on your own.

I traded it in after one year losing 50%. Now I think it is a collectors item! Who knew?

Schneegz 05-18-2003 07:26 PM

Wow, you had one of the Suzuki rotaries? Cool! It's too bad Mazda won't be making any rotaries for motorcycles. I think a good, reliable rotarie would be the perfect engine for a sport bike.

rAiN 05-18-2003 08:07 PM
