Mitsubishi will debut their new turbodiesel Racing Lancer at Portugal's Baja Portalegre race on October 30. Driven by Stephane Peterhansel and co-driver Jean Paul Cottret, Mitsubishi has high hopes for their latest entry considering that Peterhansel has won three previous victories for the company.
Power comes from a 3.0-liter V6 engine outfitted with a two-stage turbocharger, allowing it to produce over 280 PS (206kW) and 650 Nm of toque. Team partner Valeo worked extensively on the car’s advanced cooling system which was designed to deal with extreme heat of rally racing.
Fitted with a Lancer Sportback derived exterior, the car has been significantly reworked to handle the punishing rally circuit. Some of the changes include a fully-integrated multi-tubular steel frame, a lower mounted fuel tank to reduce the vehicle’s center of gravity, a modified suspension, Brembo brakes with 16-inch ventilated discs and six-piston calipers, and BFGoodrich tires.
