Yeah, but they've got the engine. Why not use it IF it'll fit and spread out some cost? Seems a better option than going with the FI 2.0L. The mags say the MX5 is the better car as far as the chasis goes.

I don't agree that they aren't worried about the Redline/GXP. They want this car to be competitive with the GM cars.

Good. That means we'll get an MS8 and 250+ MX5.

Sweet!!

Why an MS3?

1. It came out for the same MY as the RX-8.

2. As someone else mentioned... it's just reusing the MZR DISI Turbo engine which is already used in the MS6, CX-7 and JDM MPV. Low development costs and the Mazda3 is a popular model car.

To sum it up... the MS3 makes better business sense than the MS8, so Mazda is releasing that first. This doesn't preclude a MS8 eventually coming... just means delayed...

No--more than likely its the Mazda sourced unit thats in the Mazdaspeed6, Mazdaspeed3, and CX7. I'm not so sure it will fit the Miata engine bay without a rework--turbocharging the existing mill would be the other alternative for Mazda.

No. This turbo 2.3L is 'completly' different.

nevermind, wikipedia answered the question.

The 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 (also known as MPS6 in Europe and Australia) is a high-performance version of the Mazda6. It features a turbocharged version of the 2.3 L MZR I4 which produces 274 hp.
The versatile MZR is Mazda's latest Straight-4 engine. Development was assisted by Ford, who also sell the engine as the Duratec 23.
The Duratec 23 is a 2.3 L (2261 cc) version of the Mazda-designed Duratec 20. Bore is 87.4 mm and stroke is 94 mm. It has an aluminum engine block with cast iron cylinder liners and aluminum DOHC cylinder heads.
2.3 L (2261 cc) L3 (87.5x94 mm)

* Used in the Axela/Mazda3, Atenza/Mazda6, Tribute, MPV
* A turbocharged version with direct injection is used in the Mazdaspeed 6/Mazda Atenza MPS.
* Ford Power Products sells this engine as the DHE-423
The 23EW is built in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico for use in the US-market Focus and Mazda6. Output is 151 hp at 5750 RPM with 154 ft·lbf of torque at 4250 rpm.

yup, Duratec 23 is the same block as the MZR 2.3L, but the Duratec version doesn't have variable valve timing, hence the lower power output, it is rated at PZEV in emission level though

Getting back on topic, a MS MX-5 is just as much a pipe dream as a MS RX-8 is for now. Both may eventually be released, but it's all speculation at this point.

Miata fans are hoping for something that will compete with Pontiacs GXP Solstice Turbo. But right now, it's just wishful thinking. Just like many on this board hope for more power on the RX-8. It took Mazda 15 years to produce the first Mazdaspeed Miata in '04, I don't think they'll be in such a rush to produce the 3rd gen MX-5 version.

Mazda has never been one to play the hp leap frog game and Miatas are famous for being under powered. Yet they remain the best selling 2 seater sports car of all time.

Just buy a 94 or 95 miata and put on an FM turbo kit. Instant solstic/sky pwn.

Crikey Dan, you must have the same sources as a guy on the Australian forum -- Lock & Load -- who got banned from this forum a while ago. Look at his post in this thread. It's remarkably similar. I wonder if you have the same credibility issues he had?

Well look at the history of the EVO and the Miata

I'm sorry, but that is a really silly statement. First you say that fuel economy is a problem, but then you talk about 500 whp FDs... Do you think they got good mileage?? I don't.

The Renesis was made to Max out NA. The 10:1 compression tells you right there.
