Remember the Mazda Taiki with the 16X? I hope this concept doesn't have the same fate- vaporware.

So... A concept. Huzzah or whatever. I'm sorry, it's hard for me to get excited about concepts.

Lots of really neat, really interesting concepts are made but very few of them go into production and the few that do rarely look like the concept they're allegedly based off of.

If it gets made, I'll eat my breakfast. For lunch or something.
What? Do you think I'd actually eat my hair like Clarkson?

Now THIS is more like it......

Geez, it has felt like freaking ETERNITY around here now hasn't it...... ?

3 more years until 2018, the 50th-Year Anniversary of the Rotary.

It's going to be a good October. Halloween Holiday, New 007-movie, New sports (rotary ?) car from Mazda.

Bring it on..!

this is not Kodo IMHO.

this will be more advanced in terms of style and propulsion.

still hope there is a rotary inside that body, because they are exhibiting a Cosmo Sports alongside.

So long as you keep Internet Brands greasy fingers off it!

That photo has been enhanced. I tried to enhance it myself to bring some detail out, but Mazda is smarter than that. The photo was carefully edited so what you see is all that's there. Everything else has been blacked-out.

It looks pretty smooth for a concept. Too smooth. Not likely, but I'm hoping Mazda has snookered the world and will show something closer to production than the usual concept car.

RotaryNews.com is pointing out that the car has round tail lights, and the only Mazda cars and trucks with round tail lights are all rotary-powered.

The Shinari vs the Mazda6 is pretty close. I'd say Mazda does a pretty good job of it, unlike a lot of other companies.

I'm cautiously optimistic...remember the hype with the Kabura concept? We all know how that ended.

Shinari was not a concept it was a styling exercise to show what Kodo looked like in reality.

Hazumi, Takeri, Minagi, Koeru were the concepts for the cars in those segments. This is a Kodo concept. you can see it in the line in the tails and the line from the rear flare forward across the door. Every Kodo concept has been built

Looks like a 2 seater. I may still have to get it as it doesn't look like I'll be able to afford a corvette (my dream car) any time soon.

If I buy another rotary car, it won't be as a daily driver.

I regret using my RX8 as a daily driver for years before I knew how to properly maintain it. If I had the opportunity to get a brand new rotory straight from the factory and treat it right, There's no way I wouldn't drive it everyday(in the summer).

You may not be able to afford the new RX if they go the FD route. Equivalent price today would be pushing $60,000.

If the go the FB route they might be $30,000 - 35,000.

^ that is a pretty good reason for the engine to be low power, and not high power. Higher power will totally push the price much much higher.

Fortunately as well though, sharing a platform with the ND (even if slightly stretched, remains to be seen on that) has significant cost savings that the FB/FC/FD weren't really able to take advantage of.

Why not both options? FB-like 2 rotor NA and FD-like 3 rotor NA. Both based on the same basic chassis.

hmmmmm...

Costs is a good reason. Sharing engines or chassis between cars helps, having all developments in the same car makes it much worse. The ND shares both engines with other cars, and now it's going to share it's chassis. Having 2 rotaries that need to be developed and managed and maintained in the same car hurts things. It's one of the core reasons the 4-port version of the Renesis disappeared quickly. It was more cost without any advantage.

Yes, I understand that. I was thinking about reusing the same rotors, housings, side and intermediate plates and everything else that can be carried over between the 2 and 3 rotor variants. The only major specific parts needed would be the e-shaft and the thick center plate.

Plus each unique combination of engine and transmission has to be EPA certified at a cost of $250,000.00 (IIRC). That cost will probably go up now that VW cheated and caught the EPA with their pants down.
