I hate to ask, but receiving a complaint from the consumer about oil consumption, performing an oil consumption test, and actually proving that the SkyActiv-G engines are actually using an excessive amount of engine oil in a 1200 mile period are three entirely different things.

I have to ask:

Of all the cars in the US that have had the oil consumption test performed on them, how many (percentage wise) have actually required an engine repair afterwards? And which engine is it that's having the most issues? The 2.0 or the 2.5?

Like I said, my CX-5 has the 2.5, I drive it 80% highway (75 mph and above here in Colorado) at high altitude (5k feet and above), and in my 5k mile oil changes (almost always Pennzoil 0W-20), I never get to the low mark on the dipstick, not even to the 1/4 low mark.

I also hate to point out the obvious - The average American automotive consumer is dumber than a bag of rocks.

No car is immune to oil consumption complaints.

I go 5,000 miles before change of Mobil 1 0w20 Full Syn in my Mazda CX-5 with the 2.0 Sky-G. Granted i drive relatively aggressively, my dip stick never indicates below 4/5 even right before its due for oil change.

The VQ35 in the Infiniti I traded in drank more engine oil than both the RX-8 and CX-5 combined per mile.

I also hate to say it, but most of the forum members are idiots on Mazda247.com posting about their CX-5. There was a thread asking "When did CX-5 change to a CVT?" The CX-5 never had a CVT probably never will. Most of the members blame the car for user errors.

Mazda's New Turbo Rotary Engine Reportedly Coming In 2017

Huh, looks like its going to be upmarket.

Huh, looks like its going to be upmarket.

Mine's better:

According to a report from Motoring, the production rotary engine will make its debut in 2017 when Mazda celebrates the rotary’s 50th anniversary year. But rather than using the 1.3-liter 13B Renesis rotary from the RX-7, the new production RX model will feature a larger, twin-rotor 1.6-liter 16X engine boasting a twin-800cc rotor setup that will generate at least 450 horsepower. It is also believed that the Japanese automaker is working on a two-stage turbo system that takes advantage of electric turbocharging to provide high performance in the lower rpm band before the exhaust-driven turbo takes over at higher revs.

As a result, the new Skyactiv-R rotary engine should spin beyond 8,000 rpm and be more fuel efficient than Mazda’s previous rotary engine.
It also goes on to say:

As for the sports car itself, expect the RX-9 to have a dual-clutch transmission that will be integrated into the rear axle to improve weight distribution. More importantly, as is evident with the new Mazda MX-5 Miata, the production RX model is looking to use lightweight components to bring its weight to around 3,100 pounds. If it all comes to fruition, the next-generation Mazda RX sports car would be competitive with even Porsche 911 models, but for now, these are just rumors.

DAMMIT Mazda........ I want a MANUAL

Drumm09 11-17-2015 07:16 AM

It all sounds exciting and Expensive. I am really hoping they keep their next Rotary car in the mid to late 30's range.

200.mph 11-17-2015 07:25 AM

if they are going after 911s it will be way to pricey like the fd. i wont give a shit what it cost if theres no clutch pedal tho. no stick no sale

Drumm09 11-17-2015 08:17 AM

Somehow I have "Hope" that although pricey, it won't be THAT Pricey. Not 911 pricey. Common now.. Mazda would be shooting themselves in the foot with that decision. The reason the last rx-7 didn't sell as well is because they positioned themselves next to the 911 and we all know how that worked out.

All this technology sounds exciting and expensive, perhaps they could price it closer to, say, Mustang GT or Infiniti G37. Maaaaybe Audi TT even. But 911? The allmighty porsche 911? That would been insane. Even Cayman prices would be silly for them to do.

I guess we'll sit tight and patiently wait till 2017. But i agree that No clutch would mean No sale. For me and many other Rotary fans.

How to identify bullshit:

Motoring claims...
:bsmeter:

Also, how do you "improve" a perfect 50/50 weight balance?

And what is that "‘instability’ at low rpm" horseshit? My rotary is smooth as butter from idle to 9000 RPM. :dunno: :icon_bs: :icon_bs: :icon_bs:

.

easy you put the obese normal american driver in the middle of the car. we know its been done before lol

NotAPreppie 11-17-2015 05:54 PM

I dunno... A DCT just doesn't seem in keeping with Mazda's philosophies

RIWWP 11-17-2015 06:31 PM

Motoring has no idea what Mazda's philosophies are either, so they will keep spewing hypothetical ideas spawned from masterbation using magazine articles as lube.

And for some reason, people will keep believing them as "fact", when the only "fact" they have ever had proven right was on sheer accident (after Mazda made press releases that they didn't embelish too much).

Please stop giving their article any belief in validity. It's 100% garbage.

I agree - I could have bought that RX-7 in 1993 but I would have been car-poor (but happy). But it was well out of my proce range. My substitute, a Integra-GSR that I had for a very long time and enjoyed every mile.

Wheels Magazine has a feature on the RX-Vision (it even makes the cover) for its December 2015 edition:

SayNoToPistons 11-19-2015 12:09 PM

The fact that they photoshopped an "RX-7" tag on it already made them lose all credibility.

djgiron 11-19-2015 01:16 PM

I do recall reading in several places Mazda was working on an electric Turbo system, so maybe there is a bit of truth to the 2 stage electric turbo part. And with their iLoop system, they should have the power to spin the turbo at low rpms before the exhaust takes over to help with turbo lag while keeping top end HP.

gwilliams6 11-20-2015 06:28 AM

Mazda officials have already hinted at the Tokyo Auto show that it will be a RX7 and not a RX9, so that tag is reasonable.

djgiron 11-20-2015 12:06 PM

Of course after reading about the new CX's exhaust/turbo setup, maybe they will use a similar type of system to spool up a larger turbo faster . . .

Dokuji 11-21-2015 01:19 AM

It's just a gorgeous car. I hope they don't stray too far from this design for production.

WranglerFan 11-30-2015 03:07 PM

just throwing into this thread to be notified when someone posts that specs on the engine have been leaked lol

I agree. The odd forum comment (on mostly other forums I frequent) that the car is ugly, or even hideous, just baffles me. I honestly don't think that Mazda could have done better.

9krpmrx8 12-01-2015 10:57 AM

Looks are subjective, a lot of people think the RX-8 is an ugly car (which I love obviously) and a lot of people think the FRS/BRZ is a beautiful car and I think it's lame looking.

That said, I don't think the RX-Vision is ugly but I don't think the overall look is amazing either, it looks very concept car, a look we have seen many times.
