That's actually not a Spirit-R. It's lacking a LOT of Spirit-R goodies. It's just a 93-95 USDM Touring model with cosmetic changes.

Here's a few things just from what I can see by a quick glance of the vid.

93-95 intercooler piping
No efini turbo Y-pipe
No red interior Spirit-R stitching
MazdaSpeed gauges instead of Spirit-R
No 2nd oil cooler
No brake ducts

I've seen more genuine LHD reps on RX-7 club .

Now to the vid. MotorTrend has been banging out great installments on YouTube. Carlos Lagos is a great host also. I wish they went more in-depth with the RX-7 though. Love the little tribute none the less.

the brake ducts are good and bad, it's good cuz it helps to cool the brakes, the bad is it cuts the flow to oil cooler.

but Spirit-R is still a badass car, at least when it first debut in Japan 10 yrs ago.

Just think...if it weren't for the tree-huggers and ripoff gas prices, we'd probably have another car like this from Mazda already.

more than that actually, price was another problem, for the price, you can ALMOST get a Porsche.

Another thing is, FD is a high performance car but most "idiots" in the States have NO idea what FD can do, they were like meh, a Mazda can never be as fast.

the fatal problem 1/2 the people who bought it were idiots, they bought it, up the boost without doing any other mod, BOOM, then they blame the car, not their stupidity. Bad name, poor sales.

I do remember reading price point was the main reason the thing got axed in the US. But forward to today...with advances in technology they could do a similar car weight and power-wise NA, but now the emissions and MPG are the main problem.

I keep praying they can make a gasoline skyactive rotary happen.

Price could be the thing, but honestly, it's about the same everywhere else and it was sold in Japan and Aus until 2002. not to mention all the other countries that "imported" the car and sell them locally (cuz their dealers don't import them, no one knows how to fix it)

They probably have something , but NA will never have as much torque as a Turbo'ed Rotary. They can probably have another Turbo or S/C rotary even with Side exhaust ports, but like you said, Emissions and MPG are killing it. Thx to tree huggers and CLUELESS politicians who just make stupid rules without knowing science. people bitch everyday and ask why they are getting less for more, cuz you guys are fuxking stupid.

I think they should be able to make another Rotary Super Car (I think FD is about the same class as NSX, which some people considered it as a Super Car like Ferrari), but with current **** *** world Economy, a Small company like Mazda that had like what 3 years of DEEP red, unless the management group are crazy, they gotta put the numbers back into Black for a year or 2 before they will even "consider" the rotary project again. Nissan almost folded just about 10 or 15 years ago. but the CEO saved it by creating dependable product, once they have the $$$, they just start the GT-R project. Now they are doing even better. Guess Mazda is trying to do the same.

the FD got axed cause nobody bought it. they sold 522 1995 model year cars. you could find NEW FD's on dealership lots until 1998.

in that light it wasn't worth redesigning the whole floor of the car (for millions of dollars) to put all the OBD2 stuff in there.
