Well, my quick two cents is that my 8 went swimming for around 4 hours in the middle of winter and hasn't seen any rust yet with the exception of the gas fill area (two dots of rust).
For any who are curious, by the way, the engine will still turn over and run submerged.

J, I think the Mazda 3 is the best or very close to the best selling small car in Canada?..
The 3 here sells more than any other model...including GM's Holden Commodore, remove their Government Fleet and GM would be at #6 not #2....Similar for Toyota at #2 not #1.
Mazda are so close to being the #1 Brand in Australia for private Buyers/Owners, they sell very few fleet cars, I never thought I would ever see that day of Mazda being #1.
The 3 here sells more than any other model...including GM's Holden Commodore, remove their Government Fleet and GM would be at #6 not #2....Similar for Toyota at #2 not #1.

no wonder, almost everywhere I go in Montreal I see Mazda3 and 2 and VW golf running around. some Ford Focus, thats about it.
Good thing to know Mazda is doing well in other countries, guess the US people has a lot to learn, they need to stop buying garbage/boring cars

^ hey nycgps, Montreal has the biggest mazda dealership in canada, they sell about 800 mazdas a month. http://www.albimazda.com/ they have over 15 garage bays in their service department... alone, a spa, a massage parlor while you wait for your car to be serviced and i think a small bistro lol

Wayne Mazda said they're the world's biggest Mazda dealer and they don't have that ... I mean their service department is good but ... where is my spa ?
Montreal is really nice btw, I will definitively come again next year

^ personally the city is nice, i hate the highways there,off ramps on the left side, people constantly cutting across and sooo many potholes, I prefer toronto, if you can go there, thats a nice city

you should come NYC and try our potholes, oh man we have so many of them that it ate 3 of my tires (different car), 2 wheels, 2 coilovers, etc.
Dunno about Toronto, I always want to try it, but a 11-12 hours just me driving might be pushing my limits. I actually feel ok driving to Montreal this time, about 7 hours, but dunno if I can stand 11-12 hours.

lol i was there, got bullied to turn right when i never wanted to lol, looked for time square, found it on my right but could not go anywhere as i was bullied by teh guy behind me to hurry up, made a left turn on a oneway ( wrong way lol ) yeah ive been

they did mine for 60. it's still too much consider it takes them like 10 minutes to do it. but it's better than charging me for a full hour. I did it because I need to have 2 keys to program anything after myself.

and there is nothing you can do about it, cuz they're "EXPERTS" and you're nobody. Even tho you might never had any problem with rotary ever, and all the time they had with Rotary was that 1 hour they had with the car plus all the other info that his neighbors have told him/her.

i seem to be losing some power and having some problems starting(it always starts, just stutters a tiny bit) and i believe it is my coils, so do yall think mazda will check it out and diagnose my problems for free? i was going to dyno it to see if i am having a power loss but im 100% sure i am after i lost to my friends scion tc 3 times.

No Series 1 (2004-2008MY) has a Bumper to Bumper Warranty remaining in any country...as of about now.
North America does have the 8 year Engine core warranty which does not include coils.
You will pay for new Coils, you could 'try' and get them to do a free check if you are lucky and have done under 100k miles?..
Over that mileage and you have NO engine warranty.

im okay with paying for coils but i dont want to have to pay for them to check out to see if theres a problem. i havent had any problems with any dealerships only that the prices are ridiculous. $500 for a new auto start key, $10 per lugnut. and if i have them do my coils the installation prices will be insane.

You could chat to the Dealer about the Lug Nuts, as MSRP is $6.60 each not $10.
Can be bought on-line for $5.15 each from a Mazda Dealer plus shipping.
B002-37-160B Chrome Lug Nut...Mazda been using this parts for the past 43 years, any Passenger Mazda LN is the same.
Key is a different matter and are expensive...particularly the AKE set up.
I personally would not have AKE, just another expensive gadget to go wrong.
The normal Switchblade Key-less Entry is expensive enough.
Can be bought on-line for $5.15 each from a Mazda Dealer plus shipping.

I've owned a few Mazdas and aside from the occasional carburetor issue on my old '86 Mazda B2000, that was the most reliable mazda I've ever owned.
Mazda 626 had all kinds of transmission issues
RX8 - transmission failed in under 30,000, sunroof was replaced within 10,000 miles for loud clanking, brake pads squealed like crazy when I first bought it, also replaced (twice), and ignition coils are prone to early failure.
Now, do I still love my RX-8? Absolutely! But I can see how if your 'average' owner had the issues I listed above, they'd probably hate the vehicle and give it tons of low scores on a customer satisfaction survey.
