Blah Design exersise's.. gotta luv 'em... sadly this looks a bit well to "forward thinking". I can't pick out on thing that could possibly be brought forward and somewhat introduced into any Mazda car.. save for the headlights.. obviously they'd be refined but bleh.. maybe its just the clay brown color thats making it a total turn off for me.

^Maybe you're not looking at the details? I see plenty of things that can make it over into production.

Where would we be if we did not push the envelope of design? Still driving Nash Ramblers?
We need to look into the future to see what will be and can be. I like the car, if for the fact that they (Mazda) are looking ahead.
We must move forward if not we will live in the past.
50 years from now people will look back at the Nagare and say ,"What were they thinking".

Alright, so after taking more time to look at different pics... I'm not that great a fan of the car. To me, it's looks alright-to-good... a 6 out of 10. But I also think I'm a bit dissapointed, because it's basicly a reworked Senku... so it's not anything new or original.

That being said, I do like the design on the side doors, the whole sandline, ocean floor thing... in the attached thumbnail.

Regardless, I'm more excitied to see what they unveil at the other shows, it sounds like they'll be going from Farout to Closer-to-Production models, as the shows progress. But somewhere in the next 2 years we should also be seeing debuts for the new 6, 3, rx-8 and Kabura.

If I recall correctly, the FD also is the production version of a once concept car. I'm fairly certain some 1st gen RX-7 owners expressed your similar disapproval of the 3rd gen concept.

Please take note that I'm not expressing an opinion on the concept vehicle on this thread. I was merely trying to post a helpful reply to a question.

A bit extreme I can understand, and some art flare I can understand. The Kabura is a good example of a concept to test peoples impressions. There is a lot on the Kabura that would never reach production but there are many elements that could. That is a concept worth putting time and money into.

Art is done to please the artist and rarely costs alot to create. This is millions of dollars on some candy that could be spent on a concept a few notches closer to reality is all I'm saying.

Take a look at the Honda concept that looks a bit like a CRX. It's is definitely a concept and won't be built but it has some elements that could find there way into a new design CRX style hatch. Just seems like a waste of money to me is all. Oh well.

"Mazda doesn’t produce concept cars to spin its wheels, and while some are more forward-looking than others, we simply do not create pure flights of fantasy. We develop these ideas to demonstrate what we really intend to build and sell. It took soul-searching along with basic research to invent the new surface language we’re calling Nagare."
nagare, please

This concept blows just as much as the senku. Probably because it looks just like the senku. The only thing even remotely cool are the wheels. Other then that, i fart in its general direction. Im sick of all these artsy fartsy concepts. Time to come out with a real sports car. Something pretty, functional and coming soon. You want a "concept" to work from, look at the rx7 and make something from that, something fast!

It's the same damn thing as so many other concepts from the 80s and 90s where the trend was to wow audiences with futuristic looks rather than give a glimpse a car that could be made in the future. Just like those concepts, nothing remotely like this car will see production any time soon.

We are now in the next century..
Many of Mazda's concepts make production, the Ibuki (MX5), Evolve (RX8), Kabura (?), Sassou (new Mazda 2, 2007 production start), MX Crossport (CX7) what do you expect...

You can at least see what the trends are, and a look into the future.
Mazda uses many of their design concepts to reality.

I picked up a copy of "50 Years of Mazda: 2000 - 2050" at the bookstore. It contains quality photographs, covers a lot of material, including the bankruptcy in 2019 and the recovery afterwards. The most interesting read of the entire volume, was the chapter entitled "The RX8 Years". It was presented, unquestionably, as the peak of Mazda's consumer development in styling among other aspects. As the years went on in the volume, the story just got weirder and more boring through the Nagare years and beyond.

I then hopped into my spaceship and warped back this date, to inform you that gentlemen, you are riding the peak. Enjoy it while it lasts.
