Mazda i-ELOOP regenerative braking

Although it has been mentioned previously in a thread about Makda Takeri, Mazda has officially given their regenerative brake system a name and shared more info regarding it's function. It will be used as early as 2012 in the 2013 Mazda 6. Enjoy:

I think it could be quite beneficial in some of our stop and go traffic as well. I guess it could power ac with the car off for a brief period possibly in i-stop mode, maybe?

Great to hear it's going to make it in. Hopefully that's a sign that the 6 will be able to get back some of the zoom while still getting improved mileage.

Has anyone caught anything remotely about a Mazdaspeed 6 in the US? If the 2013 Mazda 6 is slated for 1Q 2012 then that would mean 2013/2014 for a Speed version if they still consider the 6 a 'speed' car.

I wonder how interested Mazda is in Mazdaspeed Performance Series vehicles any more. I also have not heard any talk about future Mazdaspeed 3 or 6. No mention of turbocharged products in the skyactiv G line. Shall we expect turbo diesels to be the emphasis of future Speed products?

I have a flashlight that uses capacitor technology. 2 years ago I posted about it and said the technology is going to be used in cars. Good job Mazda.

i hope NOT...

BTW i'm still waiting what's boiling up for the return at Le Mans...Doonan have spilled some bean for skyactiv -D.

a V6 diesel of 3.3 (max LMP1 alloweed 3.4) can have same bore+stroke of current 2.2 diesel Skyactiv

Turbo diesels would be fun but I would be surprised if they went that route. Personally with the compression rates that go with the skyactive tech, both diesel and conventional, I wouldn't be surprised if they took the easy route and avoided adding factory installed HP boost to the engines for the 6. I haven't heard how much on how the current MS3's engines have been holding up although the 2012 did get some random residual value aware this month.

I'd be fine if a MS6 version that just included better suspension/exhaust/body/brakes - assuming the regenerative tech doesn't limit brake options. But I am willing to concede that I'm in the minority. I know that people who have bought the MS3 love them but I do not know if the sales have been good enough to encourage Mazda to get back to producing a MS6.
