Mazda to Adjust Vehicle Production in Japan
Reflecting the rapid changes in global market conditions, Mazda Motor Corporation has
announced that it is necessary to further reduce production by 100,000 units or more. In line with
this, Mazda is implementing the following measures to its production system in Japan. These
actions are being taken in order to manage inventory levels and maintain an appropriate balance
in production supply. We will continue to closely monitor market conditions which are changing
day-by-day, and will swiftly respond with appropriate measures going forward.
Also:
- The Hiroshima Plant will suspend operations on December 25-26, 2008. This is in addition to
the prior announcement that Mazda will suspend operations at its Hofu Plant for the same two
days.
- Night shift operations at the Hiroshima and Hofu Plants will be suspended in January 2009.
Although no decision has been made about operations after February 2009, our policy will be to
match production levels to prevailing market conditions.

Low gas prices will do that, even though, not too long ago people were anti-SUV because of high gas prices. O well, I guess people have selective hind sight.
