Mazda 2 Production for Australia goes back to Japan..
Well, this is interesting, after ONLY 8 months Mazda Australia are reverting back to Japan for the Mazda 2, instead of the "free trade tarrif" country of Thailand.
So the Mazda 2 Sedan is finished for Oz, as it is only made in Thailand.
Mazda Australia are saying that they made this move to "secure" supply...Partly true.
These are some of the real unpublished reasons.
The Ford/Mazda plant has been hit by strike action and sabotage for the past year.
Many Non fully-qualified staff have been making the cars.
Mazda Dealers have been complaining about Quality/Reliability issues.
The Ford Fiesta for Australia/Asia will continue to be made at that Thai Plant.
Great news , all Mazda cars here go back to being Japan made.

New BT-50 and Ranger will come out of Thailand Plant though!..Urgh!

Poor bastards in North Queensland, took a 20 hour hammering, no deaths or injuries.
BT-50 sometime later this year..
Also, Mazda Japan has spare capacity now the Mazda 2 is not selling well in the USA, that was the REAL reason Australia's production moved to Thailand (then) so they had capacity for you guys...
Now it is a different Story..
Yesterday Mazda reported a loss...not good, strong Yen (weak US dollar) is slowly Killing them.
I am VERY concerned about Mazda's Future.
You guys in US have already had an across the board 10% increase on Mazda Parts and 25% on selected items....Only the beginning for you.
Next is prices of new Mazda cars in the US, no wonder they are "signaling" and Up Market approach.

And you think a new rotary is coming...NO WAY...not unless there is a huge turn around in the USA anytime soon...and they can then pass ALL emissions and fuel targets..

this is a big problem, they need to improve sales here in EU, where margins on single car are more high...
but, yes ...strong yen kills Mazda (see late 90's crisis).
SKYACTIV products must be necessarly FANTASTIC.....
