The Cobra is a quick car in a straight line, certainly, but comparing it to an M3 or an RX-8 is missing the point. Each car offers something different for the price (and in the real world, the M3 costs almost twice as much as a Cobra or an RX). I highly doubt anyone looking at an M3 would cross shop a Cobra and vice versa. The reason is the cars have very different target markets. And no matter how many parts Ford throws at that Cobra it will never handle as well either of the two other cars.

Continuing this rant, I don't much care for the handling of the E46 M3, but it's leaps and bounds better than a Cobra. At the same time, the RX-8's handling might not look impressive if you're doing all your comparisons through the pages of a car magazine, but in the real world it has a wonderfully tactile feel to it that makes you want to drive the **** out of it.

Hell, if you really want to skew this discussion, I'd take a slightly used Z06 Corvette (they are getting really cheap now!) over an M3, Cobra or RX-8 anyday.

Now that twin-screw RX-8 in my dreams.. that would be a different story :D

Wait until the next generation of M3 comes out with the 8-cylinder, and then you can find the 6-cylinder one cheaper.

I used to like the M3 but I think the styling is getting old. The first model year M3 can be troublesome whereas subsequent MY M3 have improved.

I finally got tired of lack of torque especially in upper gears and went to test drive 2005 M3. Hell of a ride-I rode shotgun with Sales Manager who is friend and competitive racer and racing school instructor. I was sold even before I got behind the wheel. The car I located is hitting dock 11/21/04 and should have by 11/26/04. Offered 23,000 for my RX-8-good sized hit but if I had kept it and done power upgrades I was afraid of clutch/transmission problems and need to upgrade brakes and suspension. The M3 has all this sorted out already. I am going to keep in touch in this forum and see how you guys and Mazda advance the RX. Who knows I may be back in 2-3 years in a Mazda.

Your constant replies to my posts are getting stale. I prefer Japanese cars over any other cars. They are all I have ever driven.
Get over it. What is it with people from Toronto? *****, all of them.
