Looky what I found... a turbo!

So this Volvo turbo has been sitting around for years... it is for a boat we don't have any more. Now that I am bored, I wanna TC something...

Thoughts?

I am thinking Turbo Polaris Ranger......or a Yamaha 4 Stroke Outboard for our Zodiac...or anything really, be creative.

BTW, this is a marine turbo, so the flow map is very vertical, at 16-18lb/min of air it is most efficient, but by 25 lb/min of air it is already out of breath.... (think marine engine, narrow RPM range for long time). But hey, I don't really care if it the best turbo for an application... just as long as it will spool up at all.

Fun in the sandbox...

PS. Don't say TC a Hummer, those things are so damn heavy it wouldn't be any fun anyway... they do have a bunch of factory TC ones already; we just don't have any of those.

a TC outboard motor would be pretty cool. What do you have to play with? Any golf carts around?

A Polaris Ranger and Gator we have are like 4wd golf carts.... that is one I am eyeing right now.

I don't know what a rubber duck is... we have Z Boats with outboards, air compressors, generators, 4wd golf cart thingys, a suburban, one of the navy units has a dune buggy, uh could mail order something (like a really big RC car, but prolly won't flow enough)....

ooh. Turbo the Suburban. I don't know what it flows but that would definitely fit the "narrow" power band. It redlines at 4500rpm right?

The dunebuggy could be fun too...

There is an abandoned Suburban, needs a new tranny. If we get that, then we can TC, gut the interior, ghetto drop the suspension and make it pretty fun. Depends on the Tranny.

I would totally do the dune buggy... but it isn't mine so have to negotiate... I guess we could buy a go cart.

Thats sounds like a plan Kane. Depending on the tranny could probably rebuild it. Ghetto rig the forks, gears and all.

Sounds like the suburban toy would be the fun one. I'm sure you can find a GM tranny around somewhere. Maybe steal one out of a hummer. They made millions of those so they're what $150?

I think the suburban would be the most logical choice, and really the easiest to do since there is a lot of info/parts I can get. But it would also be cool to do something outrageous, since I can... but blowing up an engine would be an undesired result.

You can see how I am torn.

PS. The SEALS typically call 'em IBS, Infaltable Boat Small / Itty Bitty Ships, they are also know as Z Boats, Zodiacs, Combat Rubber Raiding Craft, Mark V boat..... and the list goes on.

But they are all the same kind of thing.

I think the golf car would be cheaper to blow up, wouldn't it? (if worst case scenario happens)

that could get expensive...

You are prolly right Jedi... I don't really know $$$, I am willing to bet the outboards are the most, but we have some old beat to death ones as well.

Dune Buggy, put gun mounts on it. One on top of the cage for a M2 and a M60 for the driver. Then go play Rat Patrol.
