On the '07 announcement update... both are true. New chassis, but from my information, it will not arrive until at least 2 or 3 races into the '07 season, maybe. On the motor, Mazda will run full speed ahead on 3-rotor development, now that they also have the GT program using the same motor. A 4-rotor "might" be an option. We'll have to wait...

From conversations with Mazda folks this weekend, the Courage is scheduled to be at SevenStock-9 at the end of the month.

I think the key word there is CLAIMED. It's kind of a moot point because there are no 13G race motors around. Also did those engines have any kind of restrictor?

There are a few 13Gs around, but very rare now. Too bad they didn't continue the development on these motors.

No they didn't have a restrictor plate back then so it is very possible. I can't help but think the current engine couldn't make that much power if in fact the restrictor isn't making any difference as Dennis has stated. This is what confuses me. If it doesn't do anything, why is power so low?

If the car could lose the weight to get down to minimums and could get 475-480hp, then it would be competitive. It may not be the overall fastest but it would be competitive and that is a good first step in being successful. Mazda must have something up their sleeves. I just can't see them continuing to race in this class in the face of greatly increasing competition if they didn't have something at least competitive planned.

Just a thought~ Aluminum(light weight) 3 rotor, if they cant reduce the weight of the Courage, reduce the weight of the engine!! haha

Maybe the restriction is cooling, could be the setup of the cooling system, and the chassis as well. Just guessing.

Honda has a nice setup coming in ALMS which is a hybrid system. It uses a V8 combined with 2 electric motors. Maybe this would be an interesting way to take rotary. As long as it isn't hydrogen. Anything other than that.

I agree. I would rather see a hybrid setup vs Hydrogen. Thanks for the pic.

What kind of power do you think they are currently making?

GT Rules state we run a production block, no lightening of components. 3 52mm TB's and maximum 6 injectors. All of the rules for GT are on the Grand-Am website.

David,

We'll all be cheering you on in any and all of your endeavors. Thank God there are some good people soldiering on. Too bad Mazda Corp (Japan) hasn't shown interest in helping to date.

Aren't you a driver for Speed Source? Speed Source is building the Courage engine now so I would think that you'd have some insight into it that we wouldn't.

My guess to current power levels based on their speed is somewhere around 380-400 or so.

David isn't only a driver. I keep hearing rumors that he's a pretty sharp guy also.
Good luck at VIR.

Yes I am a driver at SpeedSource. I do know what their engines make for HP. Everyone Involved ar BK and SpeedSource is doing everything we can to make this car more competetive. Making guesses based on speed is counterproductive.
Someone earlier stated a 13G makes 480HP without a restrictor. I don't think they lose 100HP through the restrictor they run.

Yes, David is an extremely talented driver but he has other gifts he's just not boasting of at this point.

I figured you knew! I know there is more to it that merely basing their power levels based on speed alone as weight is also a factor. It would just stand to reason though that if their power wasn't off very much and if their weight was where it should be, other cars in their class wouldn't be flying by them like they are standing still. This potentially tells me a couple of things. One potential is that the car makes competitive power but it is greatly overweight. Another is that the car is where it needs to be weight wise but is grossely underpowered. The thrid and seemingly most likely scenario is that is it a combination of both to an extent. They are down on power and too high on weight. I don't see what else could be the issue. I have every confidence in the driver abilities and wouldn't lay any fault there.

Believe me, I want to see the team get the issues all resolved to be more competitive. I want to see a rotary do good in ALMS. I don't care if the car comes in dead last every time (actually I do!), it'll still be the car I am cheering for!

Thanks for being a part of this forum BTW!

I hope very good things are in the future for the Rotary in ALMS. Especially with the great competition they have.

Another thanks to Dave for being on the forum! You rock dude

Dave, great to see you on the forum. We report and follow SpeedSource over at RotaryNews.Com very closely. I'm really excited about the '07 Grand-Am season in GT.

Are you coming with Sylvain to SevenStock? If so, we'll see you here in Irvine in a few weeks!

Rumor has it Dave is also a great ECU tuner!
