It has RX8 wheels! NICE looking ride!!!!!

jones75254 10-21-2009 12:48 PM

Serious weed indeed. How many of these do they expect to sell??? Yea its pretty hot but $375K!!?? Who in their right mind would buy this over the plethera of exotics that could be had for that price (or much less even)?

I could understand $90k-$120K, but not 375, yeesh.

CyberPitz 10-21-2009 12:57 PM

For a split second, I thought it was a GTR.

I'm guessing they expect to sell all 500. As for the plethera of exotics... This is going to be a fairly rare car if they really only make 500. There's definitely a uniqueness to it and the people who can afford cars in that range will probably be fine with paying that price tag.

Well they are only making 500 of them, so 499 rich ppl (including me :P i wish )?

2tone 10-21-2009 01:13 PM

^yup, i agree. it's outrageously expensive, but it'll sell no problem. it's argueably better looking than anything save maybe a ferrari. but it'll be more exotic. and the interior is AMAZING!

rodjonathan 10-21-2009 01:16 PM

^ it will sell but i wouldnt buy one ... i could buy the ferarri thats about to come out the italia i think and a lp560-4 and a few others i mean plus its a lexus no matter how few they make "i have a lexus" will never be the same as "i have a ferrari" see what im saying?

alfy28 10-21-2009 01:24 PM

true, but i guess when i look at cars, i dont see who makes them. i like them because how they drive and look. so if i was rich and was able to afford a LFA, i would buy it. because i am not buying it for hte name, buying it on how awesome it drives

DailyDriver2k5 10-21-2009 01:24 PM

When you guys take a first glance at the Lexus LF-A , what kind of price tag comes to mind? Curious?

I honestly love the look, love the F1 sounding motor , but every time I see this car , I think of this car being in the price range of 60k-95k tops. Even at a limited run of 500, $ 375k still seems way over priced.

Even the mighty ZR-1 is a cool 120k bucks and it can out run and out handle about 90% cars on the planet!

rodjonathan 10-21-2009 01:27 PM

yeah and the zr1 is pure beast you can have a r8 v10 and a bunch of other stuff and honestly even if you take off the lexus badge when i look at this car i see 100k TOPS and thats pushing it ... IMO

alfy28 10-21-2009 01:28 PM

to be honest, about a million dollars.

but jokes aside, i do see it at the same price as GTR etc. but then again, the car comes with a V10 along with the flashy cockpit ma jiggies.

personally i feel they are only making 500 of these for top payers, and making a V8 version for ppl who will shell out for ZR1 , GTR etc.

Also aston DBS goes for 275k and the looks are about as equal to this lexus. not trying to defend lexus, but must be something in the car, taht justify the price tag

shaunv74 10-21-2009 01:29 PM

$375K and still taking a loss is the definition of facepalm in my opinion. I agree with GTR or ZR1 pricing but Ferrari 458 or Lamborghini Gallardo pricing is going to be too high unless it comes with:

1) a playboy playmate of the year
2) 10yr/100K mile bumper to bumper warranty
3) a trunk monkey
4) your own mechanic that lives in your garage
5) gets 100mpg
6) shoots cash out the tailpipe instead of CO2

:pat::pat::pat:

alfy28 10-21-2009 01:34 PM

My question to you all, when you look at this Aston martin DBs, what price tag do you see? do you see 279k?

lesper4 10-21-2009 02:17 PM

DBS all the way, but the LFA is a beautiful car in a supra restored kind of way. just way too much (and toyota even said they are taking a hit on each car!)

qtwre 10-21-2009 05:30 PM

Nice big Lexus mirrors. :)

bassy 10-21-2009 07:01 PM

Before the MSRP was announced, I thought the car would be in the $120-$130K price range. Never would I have believed or thought that Lexus wanted to sell this thing for close to $400K.

For that kind of money, I have a long list of other cars that I'd rather look at than this LF-A, including cars with lower price tags (like the Aston Martin DBS, Porsche 911 GT2, MB SL65 AMG, Gallardo LP 560-4, Ferrari F430, etc.).

If I already had an MB SLR, a Porsche Carrera GT, and probably a Ferrari Enzo (for shit and giggles) in my imaginary garage, I'd have no problem plunking down close to $400K for a Lexus LF-A. But if I only had enough money for one exotic car, I'd make damn sure it's got an exotic name and emblems on the car. To me, the name "Lexus" is not exotic enough. It's kind of like whether you want a $7K Spring Drive Seiko watch or a $7K brand-name Swiss watch (Rolex, IWC, JLC, Panerai, etc.).

If you got a $7K Seiko watch, you'd have to explain to other people why the hell it costs so much for a Seiko. Similarly, if you got a $400K Lexus LF-A, you'd probably need to explain why the hell a Lexus costs that much. Otherwise, people will think that you're nuts.

But then some people may go, "Screw 'em all....I don't need to explain anything to anyone..." I ain't one of 'em, though.

And oh, what's up with the humongous mirrors on Lexus cars nowadays? Fugly.

pking1122 10-21-2009 07:05 PM

Beyond ridiculous, but whatever. Typical Lexus/Toyota.

DailyDriver2k5 10-21-2009 07:09 PM

Honestly that DBs is too much for it's hansome styling as well. 200k ok, 279k your in lambo territory. Anything north of the 250k price tag the car better look like it can fly and look one of a kind. That's what makes a lamborghini a lamborghini. It has the look to back up it's high price tag.

Rotr8 10-21-2009 07:27 PM

I would soooo much rather have this over any Lame-borghini, the Technology directly induced from F1 and if anyone has seen the videos in the other three threads you would understand that this car is truely a unique beast,,, The only car Ive ever heard that directly sounds like an F1 car,,,, I would suspect that the engine alone cost around $200K,,,

NYC Drift King 10-21-2009 07:36 PM

Let me see... I think I would pay about 120k for this car. 375k hell NOOOOOO! But what we seem to forget is that the people who are going to buy this car. It wont affect or change there lifestyle when they buy it. They wil drop 375k cash and its a drop in the bucket. So they wont say "I have a Lexus" they will say "Hey I added that Lexus supercar to my collection 1 of 500 ever made" lol.

ferg 10-21-2009 07:37 PM

i mean look at ford, they finally make nice cars,

chino0314 10-21-2009 07:37 PM

i want :)

Rotr8 10-21-2009 07:41 PM

This car has nothing to do with a status image, it has everything to do with uncompromised unleashed technology, if Toyota wanted to actually break even on this car they would have to sell it for another $100K,

This car plainly and simply says "we are Toyota, and we learned a hell of alot in F1, and to everyone else BRING IT"

RIWWP 10-21-2009 07:56 PM

Meh, it's just rice:

An acoustically tuned surge tank linked to 10 individual throttle bodies creates a powerful induction sound. The coordination of intake and exhaust sounds overlap at various RPMs to create a unique, exciting and inspired soundtrack.
(That is the definition of rice...right?)

:lol::yelrotflm

myriadshalaks 10-21-2009 08:00 PM

10 throttle bodies? whf?

200k tops. I really wanted to see a somewhat affordable new supra. i thought this was going to be it. oh well.

please tell me it doesn't have the ghey tailpipes of the ls-f. ugh.

gh8st 10-21-2009 08:07 PM

doesn't matter how much it is, they're gonna sell every single one of those 500 LFA's as soon as they release it

gh8st 10-21-2009 08:11 PM

just watched the vid of the LF-A on the track.. the sound it makes is orgasmic

Chris 10-21-2009 08:29 PM

to me it seems like a lambo, gtr, and r8 went for an amazing three some. which to me makes this car un-unique

SiLVeRE8 10-21-2009 08:39 PM

Wow for that price.... I rather pick up a used f430 and a used gallardo and still have change left....

Exactly what I think as well. The price tag really doesnt matter to them. They got the publicity, Lexus now has a super car. It might not be the fastest, but this car probably has more engineering efforts put into it than the GT-R, some Ferrari's and definitely all of Lambo and Audi.

Just crafting that chassis is no easy task, and they did it in-house with knowledge gained from F1 for sure. And that V10 is the best sounding piston engine period. Of course a PP 3 or 4-rotor would sound even nicer!

This car is the child of what Toyota learned in racing all these years. It screams F1 and LeMans to me. And the front has looks of the Supra as well.

Job well done by Toyota I'd say.

If they sell all 500 units at 400k, that'd "only" be 200 million. I'm pretty sure more R&D dollars went into it. The chassis with these specs might make up all of that 200million already, not to mention Toyota's first super high performance V10 engine.

I watched the video about 7-8 times today and it just blew my mind how that sounds you could literally substitute the soundtrack over footage of Toyota's TF109 and you would never know the difference,,,

rodjonathan 10-21-2009 10:17 PM

i do agree but i still feel the price is outrageous ... that being said if i was a person with limitless money i would buy one

The thing is that this car might eat a lot of Ferrari alive. Not to mention it looks much better than most Ferrari design, you might not agree, thats just me.

375K sounds like highway robbery. but its not meant for people like "us" to get our hands on.

Dont forget they're going to make 500 "only" they have to at least get back the R&D cost for the car. if its mass produced Im sure the price will be much much MUCH lower.

tajabaho1 10-21-2009 11:01 PM

anyone up for a bank job?

shaunv74 10-21-2009 11:01 PM

This car will not outperform the new ferrari 458.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=8280

It's cheaper (200K vs. 375K)
more sophisticated (electronic suspension, multi clutch 7spd trans, smaller V8 with the same power)
faster (3.3 vs. 3.7 0-60)
will probably lap faster
Maybe the LFA will get better gas mileage. :dunno:

Toyota's car is impressive but there is nothing that creates a compelling offer for it in the market vs. it's competitors. It's doesn't definitively stand out in one quality or another above the competition.

BlueEyes 10-21-2009 11:26 PM

Well, with 500 units planned, it'll destroy the competition in exclusivity. At those prices, a lot of people are looking for that,

that interior is mesmerizing

Symbioticgenius 10-22-2009 01:05 AM

Not to repeat too much what has already been stated, but plain and simply, Toyota is doing this... because they can.

They caught news at all the people laughing at their other garbage cars and said... laugh at this. While some of you in here are, most people certainly will not. I'm also sure if Toyota had chosen a different goal, like say Nurburgring times, they would have destroyed the GTRs, said laugh at this, and walked away.

You gotta remember one thing. Toyota is the only car company right now, that can make a car, knowingly take a loss on it, and not even care. Why? Cause they have over 1.2 Prius sold. They will make it back elsewhere, and possibly take some of that technology they developed, patent that and make everyone else buy it, just like that hybrid system that every other manufacturer is "renting".
Toyota just give a big giant F-U to every other "car manufacturer" out there... I use the term car manufacturer because terms like "opposition", and "competitor" are just non-existent when it comes to Toyota.

Performance Wise, this thing seems Awesome, but not for the price. I could list a ton of Modded cars that would smoke it, cost less, and look better doing so. With that said... I'd take it for a spin given the chance.

I hope it does better than the Ford GT
P.S. I also like how the 3200 lb weight wasn't mentioned... that's kick-ass.

P.P.S. For some reason I thought this thing was Mid-Engine... My only qualm is that its not.

P.P.P.S. That Aston Martin looks like a 29 grand Hyundai...

Wert4580 10-22-2009 01:44 AM

Needs clear corners! LOL

Maybe if Toyota hadn't stopped making cars worth a damn in the early 90s, this thing might cost less? Development costs go way up for supercars when you make nothing but boring shit for several years...

Mostly a joke, F1 costs a lot no matter what; the car is supremely expensive, but not worth it to me - it's stunning but not stunning "enough".

*EDIT* - This is a repeat of the McLaren SLR, but from a less distinguished manufacturer. F1 tie in and development = mega bucks for a car that isn't the absolute fastest. In comparison to that, this is a bargain - the SLR isn't as limited in production, and cost another 100 grand on top; and that has a slushbox.

Symbioticgenius 10-22-2009 02:56 AM

I say its a mistake Remake of the Ford GT. Too costly, too exclusive, too high pricing and for a brand that is mostly focused on beaters.
