hey, thats actually whati did in my stealth. it took me a few days to get her into the garage, but as soon as i figured out how to get away from the first gear problem, it was no problem... so i say just get the car, take her out into a parking lot with a parent or somebody who can drive one, and in a few days you'll be great. good luck man

just get the manual, you'll be fine, unless you admit that you're absolutely uncoordinated and will NEVER learn how to drive a manual, lol

Definitely just get the manual. It'll be a bit intimidating at first, but you'll learn quickly. Three of my roommates (two current, one former) all bought MT cars before they were experienced at all. They all knew the general idea and had tried it once or twice, but none of them were actually good enough to claim that they actually knew how to drive stick. All of them currently love it, and they all claim that they'll never drive an automatic again (however unlikely that may be).

the thing is if i get the manual now then i have to stick with it from now through college. But if i get an automatic i can probably get a new one in about 2 years. BTW on that subject do you guys think i could trade in an 04 in 2 years for maybe an 07? provided i pay the diffference of course.

Why does the transmission factor in to how long you have to keep it? Isn't the auto actually more expensive?

Either way, I still say stick with the MT. You'll probably just end up regretting the AT.

Also, you could trade in an 04 any time you want. Cars depreciate over time, so you're going to get less for it the longer you wait.

it matters because if its auto then my parents can pass it down to my sister when she learns to drive and i can get a manual when i go off to college. while if i get a manual then i'd have to stick with it till i'm done with college.

I say convince them to teach your sister manual and pass your car down. Driving stick is a VERY valuable skill to have, plus it makes you a much more alert driver.
