Sedan is ugly and more ugly. I suppose if it drives really well than the exterior will matter less.

The interior is nicer, but the HVAC controls are cheap.

Go ahead and call them ugly if you like, but they're hardly boring.
I second this.

Let them be mad. When they build a car that looks like this one and has a few less hp and torque than the car it replaces it doesn't matter.

If it drives well the Subaru faithful will buy it and it will bring in a broader range of customers. I for one am done with Subaru after I get rid of the one I have.

Less ugly now, but... very very bland

Impressive 3.6L H6 that runs on regular.

New Tribeca seems to have an inherited a Chrysler grill.

I'm part of the rare minority that actually likes the way the current Tribeca looks. The front facia looks like a Cylon and the interior looks like the bridge of the Enterprise. I think they should have made an STi version out of it.

Well at least the Tribeca is improved. A tad bland and similar to what's on the market however.

It looks like it's heading toward the mazdaspeed 3 look. But yes the front end is ugly! It reminds me of a Ford Contour w/ a hood scoop.

My final thoughts...

Impreza Hatch: Will do well just about everywhere but the US and I think a lot of people here will warm up to it once they see it with aftermarket front end pieces. In fact, we may even see the wagon/hatch outsell the sedan for once even though Subaru is only hoping for 40%. It's similar to the Bugeye in that sense, but the Bugeye needed side skirts and wheels to make it look nice.

Impreza Sedan: I think/hope it will look better in person, but my my is it bland. I think overall Subaru isn't going to get the sales bump they were hoping for in the US. Subaru will work hard on a facelift for MY 2010 at the latest.

Tribeca: I'm with Ronin, I liked the odd design of the last Tribeca and the interior was/is very cool. The new one is quite attractive but uninspired and fairly boring. It will sell better because Subaru has addressed a lot of the issues that people had with the last one.

STI: I still don't think there has been an official release but it's likely the new STI will be hatch based. I think that one has a lot of potential. The hatch is a pretty good foundation and could look really nice with the right bits and pieces added.

Maybe not so final, one last thing The Impreza sedan does not look like a Corolla... Until it becomes a WRX and they put the Corolla S bodykit on it I also can't believe they skipped the fender flares...

Wow, that Tribeca got a serious case of the borings. I was starting to warm up to that goofy front end, but now I think I actually dislike it more than I ever did. A car has to have SOME personality, come on guys. At least the interior still kicks ***.

What happened to the Subaru designers? I think they all quit, so they hired a bunch of interns to go grab bits and pieces from all the boring/cheap cars on the market. That's the only explanation.

Their head designer "resigned" last July. I think during that transition time they may have dumbed down his original design a bit. This new Impreza was to be the first design he was responsible for.

Who knows what happened with it from the time he was fired til its debut. My fear is that a bunch of guys in suits sat around and fancied themselves experts in design and and made anything interesting in the Zapatinas designs. Or maybe Zapatinas knew he was on his way out and that influenced the design in some way. Maybe he was maligned for taking too many chances and wanted to stick it to them by making some of the most boring cars on the road.

Well if sales are not great I hope it doesn't discourage Mitsu from bringing it's Sportback to the US. Thats was a great looking concept. Hatchbacks get a bad rap in the US.

I do think Subrau is trying to differentiate the STI more from the base and WRX so be wheel flares and such may pop up on it. Don't think it shows until September so many more months of speculation.

So far the 07 STI limited seems to be the best looking Impreza (although I'm partial to the bug eye myself).

So do I! The Evo still looks better to me but the utility of the hatch cancels that out. Which one I get is just going to come down to which drives better. Unless the Camaro ends up being a better drivers car than expected (and they don't offer the cheap V6) one of these will most likely be my next car.

those are Road and Track photoshops of what the STI may look like.

still, that photoshop does look much nicer (no more hideous grille), and I love that it's a hatch (haul *** and stuff).

Prolly photochopped from a Ford Focus. I'm sad to see how Subaru is continuously uglifying the Impreza line. I've hope that after the "dark ages" of the GD-cars, the redesign will at least match up to the GC-cars. It doesn't look like it. I'm reminded of the Kia Rondo.

Oh noes! The estimated horsepower on the STi is more than the estimated horsepower on the Evo X! I know they're just estimates, but how am I supposed to win my magazine races now?

I'm glad someone likes the Subaru line. It keeps competition up and works in everyone's favor.

Interesting is that, according to the article, the Evo X sheds 50lbs with the new engine, but is still approx 250lbs heavier than the previous generation. On the other hand, the STI is going to be 50lbs lighter overall than before.

Well, I don't think there are any official numbers so you can't really be sure about any of that.

But more than likely they're guesstimating and trying to be account new features like the DSG-type transmission that's supposedly going to be included. I believe I read that VW/Audi's DSG weighs about 80 lbs more than a manual. On top of that you're going to have those "luxury" type items like multimedia system, cruise control, etc.
