Compare it to what it's replacing and it's most certainly better IMO. I don't know why you guys are freaking out so much. It's clear that most of you just don't care for wagons and hatches. That car is also not competition for the Evo, it's just a WRX and the hatch/wagon version at that. Lets wait and see what the sedan and STI looks like...

I like hatches, used to own a Protege5, but that thing's pretty rough. I VERY much prefer the look of the current 07 to this one - I'm actually looking at getting an 07 sedan, but even the wagon looks better than that. I definitely like the PS that Design1st posted - in fact, if that's what the thing ends up looking like, I'd have to seriously consider waiting.

Why, are they totally chaning the entire front end for the sedan? That's the part that makes it so hideous...

The front end is fine IMO, the grille doesn't fit. The production car as a whole may have a different front end, this is just a prototype. If the car comes out with that front end then it will not be the end of the world. There will probaby be 5 different grilles available the day it hits showroom floors and 5 more within the first year it's out.

it fails at what its designed to be a hatchback. It looks like it has no room in the hatch

I guess it's pretty official. Here's an entry from Autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/29/n...-info-surface/

That grill is no better than the current grill.

Subaru is such an interesting company. They generally make ugly cars with nice engineering that I think sell pretty well. I'm wondering if intentional ugliness is part of the company mission statement. They're just so good at it.

I think though that if they swap out the grill and modify the funky (Banglish X3 type) tail lamps, it might not look so bad.

The profile is actually decent.

I think most car enthusiasts everywhere were really hoping Subaru wouldn't drop the ball on the WRX redesign.

The really dropped the ball. Didn't they fire a top tier designer? I love wagons and hatches, but this one could use some improvement. The rear isn't bad, but the front was hit with the ugly stick.

It'll probably do really well if reasonably priced. Not very hard to do if you're just molding plastic.

I'm not surprised by this comment. Speaking (very) broadly, everyone is benchmarking the late Mazda3 hatchback (not the Mazdaspeed).

And this is a chop of an 08 STI that shows they might be able to pull off the STI at least:

Well it was going to be but NAISOC is swarmed. If you look through the STI pic thread it's the black one.

Still not official, but they did say the shots are authentic. All I have to say is "ouch." I feel bad for Subaru.

They are just saying the shape is almost identical to the Mazda 3. Most quotes on the grill point to a Chrysler.

Nothing wrong with hatch just don't make it boring. If this was the base Impreza no one would be too worried I think.

Always hope for the Sedan.
