I just saw this license plate frame in an ad in my latest Popular Mechanics (no affiliation with the mag or this website, I just suscribe). I think you pre-program it and control which message that shows with a remote button, probably wired. It would be nicer if the text could be changed on-the-fly. I know Polak Graphics is trying to set up a License Plate frame for the group and don't want to interfere with his business, but this is an interesting alternative to a customized plate. You can get either red or blue LEDs and have them for car or motorcycle.

That's queer. They sell them in a few stores around here, and well, I don't want to get into sterotypes, but only a certain type of person buys them.

 

You're right, of course, but at least this distraction is outside the car. My biggest distraction has been looking for other RX-8s. Since I got mine I keep looking at other similar cars thinking it might be one. Before I got it I was just fine driving and paying full attention to traffic the way I should, but now...It's really annoying but I can't help myself.
Not sure what can be done about theft except make it harder to take, like riveting it on. But you might have to remove it to program it and that would be a pain. Oh well, nothing's perfect.

Anyone remember the old Matt Helm movies with Dean Martin? His car had a scrolling marquee on the back. It was funny at the time. Long time ago.

 

That would be quite useful when a person is in a hurry and doesn't have a cell phone to distract them from the bad drivers on the road around them.

This idea is promising. I'd like to have something much bigger that I can change on the fly pretty easily. I'd go from things like "j00 got pWnz0r3d!!" to "pass me, I dare you" to "u R teh h0tn3ss" and so on and so forth.
