the numbers of the s2k vs the 8 are just about the same, it would all come down to the drivers to determine which car would win. either way, the s2k (a piston motor) does not feel natural at 9k rpm. the 8 on the other hand feels right at home screaming past 9k. the honda is a great car, but the 8 just feels better (plus it has 2 extra seats)

Not quite. The AP2 S2K (2004 to present) packs about 15-20 more whp on average and weighs about 200lbs less, so I wouldn't quite call that just about the same. Road tests show a best of 5.4 0 to 60 in the S2K and 14.0 in the 1/4, as opposed to a best of 5.9 and 14.5 for the RX8. That's a respectable difference in performance.
If you wanna throw in the driver skill argument, yes of course, the difference isn't enough to guarantee the S2K can beat an RX8 every time, because these types of cars are not easy to go fast in, and driver skill is much more important then many other cars. Each require you to learn a skill to obtain the most power out of them. It can most definitely come down to the driver, but in car vs car, as road tests have shown, the more HP and lighter weight has proven itself.
I agree with you on the other things. I miss the smoothness of the rotary, but I'm willing to accept losing that for reliability, and this S2000 has proven durability. The S2K is more geared towards being a pure sports car since it's a two seat one trim only roadster. The RX8 was built for more civilized use, so each is supposed to be what they are, and face criticism.

as far as pure performance goes its not even close...

by the end of the race the s2k which came in first has built a huge lead on the rx8. they also commented on that the type R and g35 takes corner faster than the rx8.
s2k also clearly handles the best while the rx8 350z and g35 were in the same league

fan boys please dont get pissed, there are tons of things the rx8 does better than the s2k too, 99% of us dont even goto the track.

If a supposedly purposed built car can't beat a sports sedan at the track outrightly, I'd consider that car's purpose a failure.

haha are we even allowed to get back on topic after this highly-debatable (sarcasm) topic?
Really though, I'm really waiting until we have some time to get both cars out and take some pictures. I could post one any day of the two cars sitting out back side by side but that would please no one -- good pics are on the way. May take a while, I'll get to it as soon as possible.

Yes, absolutely, there are things about my RX8 that I trully miss, and as an overall car for daily I prefer it over the S2K. as amost anyone would. Owning my Speed 6 has eliminated the advantages the RX8 has over the S2K regarding comfort and amenities.
As for pics, YES PLEASE. I sold my RX8 before getting an S2K, and I never got the chance to get pics of both cars together.

Wind Dance nice pics. Where did you get the front splitter from, been looking for one for my RX-8. Not as aggressive as yours but somthing along the lines.

What's funny about this thread is that there's a hug discussion about how fast this car is over that one...blah, blah, blah... and we have yet to see the "twins" pix the OP said they'd post.

I'm not wanting to throw up crappy pics of the car just to get it done. Hopefully I can clean them up soon and take some pics. I am also surprised what this thread turned in to... I figured there'd be a couple of posts and then it would fade away until I posted a few pics haha.
