Great link...thanks. I've started wathing Top Gear on the Discover Channel. I don't think anyone is more straightforward in their reviews than him.

I think he gives fair and truthful reviews. Though he adds his opinion, but who doesn't when reviewing a car! I just think he has a better chance of giving you a fair review due to him testing cars people wish they could even see in person!

Top gear's review of the Benz McLaren was intense!! I'm not into Jeremy at all, he seems like quite a arrogant englishman. Anyone see where he couldn't get the chicane right in that Maserati(spelling) He tore that car apart, becasue he could not drive it properly. Also his take on the DB9 being a better performer than a F430???? Did anyone else find that insane?? I haven't driven either but he is the only one that has suggested a BRITISH car over any Ferrari. Top Gear a great show yes, is he a complete **** to me yes. Car and Driver I feel give fair reviews, when compared to the likes of Autoweek and Motortrend.

Car and Driver is easily my favorite auto mag. I find their reviews are fairly impartial, except when it comes to BMW, they seem to always love them for some reason. But I can't complain too much, they almost always give the edge to the "driver's car" rather than the "I can drive fast but can't turn or brake" car, as seen in their comparo of the RX-8, 350Z (or G35c, I can't remember), and last Mustang Cobra.

Did you not see the last Top Gear where he said "Nobody can touch Ferarri" and he admitted he should have bought an F430 over his childhood dream car, the Ford GT. Basically his review of it said that it was really the best supercar out there, save maybe the Enzo.

He comes off as arrogant, but I mainly think it's for entertainment value, but sometimes he will pick the drivers car, and sometimes he will pick the car with the best engine, not necessarily the fastest. If you really want more accurate information about a car Fifth Gear would be better, but if you want the entertainment Top Gear it is.

I live in Canada. I get EVO delivered to my door. I have also seen it at book stores like Chapters, Indigo, etc.

I have been following JC since his writing debut about 20 years ago long before Top Gear existed. He writes to amuse, sometimes about cars. His article on spending a week with a carbon-fiber Olympic racing bicycle (about 15 years back when he smoked heavily) was hilarous - he didn't have the puff to ride it so pushed it around for a week. Even better was his 2 page review of the 1960's Corgi Batmobile that he had as a kid....

Anyway back to the topic - I believe what he said was that the Aston DB9 was a superb all round GT car and nothing (not even a Ferrari) was better for racing a high-speed train over 1000 miles non-stop from London to Monte Carlo. However in another show he said the Ferrari F430 was the best sports car ever made and much better than his Ford GT (or even his previous F355 or SL55 etc).

Btw...the US topgear episodes are heavily edited. They remove most of the american car bashing, take out the star in a resonably priced ride, and even cut out some review segments that may show american cars in a negative light.

In some instances, the show was cut as much as 20-30 minutes of content. Yay US .

If you want to see the original episodes and the current season (discovery is also showing LAST years episodes), visit...

http://www.finalgear.com

You can also download 5th gear episodes as well, another good show (but usually no where near as well done as topgear).

You can also find torrents for both at

I've become a big Clarkson fan since first catching Top Gear on Discovery. I find his writing to be witty and concise. That and the fact that the man doesn't mince words when it comes to praising or bashing a car, makes him my new favorite car journalist.
