Infiniti planning 2007 G37, M37, FX37?

http://www.leftlanenews.com/2006/03/...-g37-m37-fx37/

we all know Nissan and Toyota is in a hp war right now trying to 1 up each other. Toyota's new 3.5L V6 (IS350 upcoming Supra) is technically superior than the decade old VQ35 from Nissan. seems Nissan is going upping the ante also with a 3.7L V6. hp wars are great because consumers are the winners

Yes that is good new I wonder if that is going to be on the same platfrom as the G35 or something different especially with all the talk of the skyline becoming a infiniti in the US

With 750 horsepower and a big turbo you can expect 18-19mpg on a 3 rotor.. just ask the puerto ricans.. it's all in how you drive the car.

I think nissan needs more then hp to compete with Toyota. I do like the looks of the upcoming g35/37 but I'm not a fan of the interiors and truck like handling. Plus, I've seen many nissan products with uneven body panels. I hope they fix all the little things too as it's the small details that seperate the two.

lol well... compact sport car mag have this tunner car competition every year where the entrants are usually making massive hp. 350-400 whp is probably the average, some exceeding 500whp. one of the categories just happens to be fuel efficiency, where they drive down some road in Cali together.. those people are able to get like 25-30 mpg on these crazy powered cars, and they mention they are all feathering the gas and driving like grandmas and coasting a lot.

i think mpg should be based on normal driving conditions. im not saying it cant be done, but id think it would be hard for mazda to do a 3 rotor renesis and get decent MPG. if it manages to pass emission. unless theres some technological breakthrough. alas im no rotary expert, so maybe its not too hard to do?

Infiniti cars have no problem out handling their lexus counter parts. G35 easily out handles IS350 and have more driver feedback. The M also easily outhandles the GS... but coming from you im not suprised, to each his own I guess

I agree with the interior comment though, lexus interior is the golden standard of the industry.

The handling is good as in cornering ability but it still feels truck like. Toyota's is350 factory suspension is much softer and feels like a car. It's hard to explain.

to me g35 corners and handles better, better feel with stiff suspension. it feels like my dads M3 while the IS350 is more forgiving on the *** and a better daily rider, more like a Benz but has relatively more bodyroll. its just 2 different types of feelings. but ohh well to each his own.

While they are many ways to make huge powers, Mazda have no V6 of their own yet=/, but hey, i m pretty sure turbo engines get better fuel economy than big V6s, 3.5+Ls. Dont know if its an advantage of disadvantage for Mazda tho. Soccer moms cant handle the word "turbo" hehe

i think the advantage in V6 is cost. nissan and toyota are stuffing their current 3.5L in everything. Camry (2007 v6 camry will make 268hp), avalon, altima, maxima, is, es, g35, m35 etc. i expect nissan to stuff the 3.7L into everything, next thing we know we have old ladies driving 300hp altimas with torque steer up the ying yang by 2008

Just how much Hp is enough for an average consumer shopping for sedan and family car? I dont think more is better, 250+hp is more than enough! Maybe big Hp will soon evolve into a turn-off for consumers, simple fact which they all know is more power = more gas!

I personally do not think Mazda needs to join this hp war, they should take advantage of this oppuntunity to improve their cars or marketing, not pour the R+D $ into new engine designs.

there was a time when people would say 200hp is more than enough!

i think hp war is a good thing. i do notice that technology has been getting better and fuel economy actually improves with power. for example the IS350 makes 106 more hp than the IS300 it replaces yet it gets better mileage. companies are also investing in hybrid technologies that will yield massive power yet be more fuel efficient than current power trains.
http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../60224008/1009 so i dont see how more power is going to turn off consumers at least in the foreseeable future.

when consumers cross shop cars, even for non enthusiasts, power is something that people looks at. having power handicap can really hurt a car's sales. Theres just so many ways to make power, I really like what mazda has right now with the turbo charged 2.3L I4. I think you have to try to keep up with the competitors in order to maintain and expand the market share.

Skyline vs Supra... time for the battle to continue (after a decade long pause)...

Mazda needs to jump into the fight with a beastly RX7. If they release that Kabura Krap into the market against these big guns... its game over.

I agree. Nissan/Infiniti has been leading the hp wars shoving it down people's throats not only with their cars but their trucks as well. A friend of mine crosshopped a Pathfinder against a 4Runner and the hp could not make up for the rest of the car. This looks like Nissan's focus and it shows thorugh their marketing. I think this strategy is working for them in separating themselves from Toyota and Honda. Do you remember the G20? That was hailed as a weakling and then Nissan stepped it up big time.

Although I don't agree with the truck like handling comment, their cars have raw power but lack tossability and feel- what mazda is focusing on.

I have an FX-35 they have other things to work on instead of the motor. How about fixing all the things on my FX. I hate that thing..... From the squeaks that sound like a parakeet, to gas milage that make the 8 seem like a economy car, and quit teling me I have 4 flat tires.

You all do know that I have talked about all this at length repeatedly is various threads on the 350Z and GTR now. There was a thread where we were arguing about just this. The VQ engine, the death of the VQ35 and new 3.6 or 3.7L engine. Several JDM magazines have been saying that this is happening (as well as an inside source) and that the power target is about 330hp.

The new G car will be based on the same FM derrived platform that the Skyline GTR will be riding on. However, the Skyline GTR is rumored to be using racecar aluminum spaceframe on the front and rear to reduce weight. The transmission is rumored to be rear mounted (isn't the C6 Vette like this?) to give the car better weight balance. The engine is undecided... TT V6 or V8.... either way looking at about 500hp.
