Question Infiniti G35C

Help! I'm having impure thoughts on buying an Infiniti G35C. Am I wrong? I don't plan on selling my RX-8, but I want a G35C. I absolutely love the looks of the wingless one, and it has some pretty serious tuning potential. Plus, it looks softer than the 350Z, which I like .

Is a G35C a good investment or not?

P.S. - Here's an example picture that is not helping me get over this craving.

Resale will be strong but there is no such thing as a good investment in the new car world.

Yea, but the interior is poor and the handling is not nearly as tight as the 8.

As long as you keep the 8 go for it. The G35c is hot.

The G35C is an awesome car, except for the cheapish-looking, plasticky interior. If you can afford it, go for it. I almost bought one instead of the RX-8 - not that I'd have regrets, but I still think that if the G35C had a good interior and no stupid auto up/down windows, I'd have one now. I could even live with the frameless windows which I don't like

Beautiful car. If you can have both, why not?

Thing is if you can afford two 30k+ cars why do it, get yourself something even nicer and just have one...

Also the tuning potential is not really that great on the VQ engines, great engines but if you want something with serious tuning potential get a factory FI car or some good old american muscle.

Sure, you can FI the VQ35DE, but they blow up once awhile. :P Like Ike said, if you plan to keep the RX and spend another $30k, might as well sell the RX-8 and get yourself a M3.

Like I said, I never plan on selling my RX-8 . I am thinking about buying a G35C.

I too have heard about VQ engines not being able to handle forced induction well. I have the FSM for the 350Z (I need the V35's ), so I won't know for sure until I actually read it .

Anyway, there was a story I read about James Chen's Z33 that ran in SCC and SS's Time Attack Challenge. The car made a run and then leaked coolant everywhere. DNF. In case you didn't know, Chen's car is equipped with an ATI ProCharger. Was the blower the culprit? I wouldn't completely say so. The blown coolant line, or whatever that was, is a direct result of poor tuning. I think companies jumped the gun too soon when it came to forced induction and the VQ35DE engine. I prithee the RX-8 will not share the same fate.

I might just wait until Nissan fixes the problems that have been associated with the Z33 and V35. From what I have heard, there are some serious suspension problems. I also didn't like the packaging options the G35C came with. I went to their Flash-abused webpage last night, and I found out the only option is leather. I hate leather! I know the V35 coupe is an upper echelon sports coupe, but, er...I can't think of how to end that but I guess if Nissan wanted to go that way, I guess I'll have to accept it. It's an Infiniti after all.

The key to maximizing the potential of any car is tuning. Like I said, the aftermarket jumped the gun when the Z33/V35 came out. The result? Blown engines, drivelines, etc. That's why I bought my RX-8. The aftermarket is slow for this car, and that's good. I don't want to be the first with a turbo kit. I'm going to sit this one out until I see stable results. Thank you everyone for your opinions. I would like to hear more from y'all .

I'm still thinking about buying one. You have to admit it's a gorgeous car, especially in white.

Wait a minute....a couple of members here thought a white z looked like a "bar of soap". Im surprised that no one here said the black G35C looked like a "bar of soap that was dropped on the floor and got dirty" :p .

Just messing w/ you guys...im a z owner and I found the bar of soap analogy hilarious. See not all z owners here try to cause trouble .

If you get the G35c, I would consider the 05 model coming out this fall. Here is the excerpt from nissannews.com.

"2005 Infiniti G35 Offers Significant Enhancements [June 3, 04]

SAN FRANCISCO (June 3, 2004) – Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury division, today announced a number of significant enhancements to its popular G35 sport coupe and G35 sport sedan for the 2005 model year in North America. The changes include the introduction of a new coupe Sport model, a redesigned exterior appearance for the sedan and a redesigned instrument panel and console area with aluminum trim or optional wood trim on both the 2005 G35 coupe and G35 sedan.

Another major enhancement for the new model year is an increase in power for all G35 sedans to 277 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque (from 260 hp/260 lb-ft). The G35 sedan lineup, which added a new all-wheel drive version in the 2004 model year, also receives new exterior styling for 2005 – featuring a new hood, grille, bumpers, side sills, taillights and wheels.

The G35 coupe’s new Sport model will be available in an advanced 5-speed automatic transmission or with a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission. The Sport 6MT model receives an additional 15-plus horsepower over automatic-equipped G35 coupe’s standard 280 horsepower, bringing its power to the 295-horsepower range (final figures to be released later).

In addition, the manual transmission design on both coupe and sedan models has been improved to provide a lower shifting effort.

The 2005 G35 sedan will be offered in four models, each equipped with a standard 3.5-liter V6, 4-wheel independent suspension and the refined exterior. For 2005, the sport-tuned suspension package has been upgraded with 18-inch lightweight cast aluminum wheels with 235/45R18 tires and drilled aluminum pedals.

The G35 coupe will be offered in three models for 2005, Coupe, Coupe Sport A/T and Coupe Sport 6MT. Both Sport models include a new sport-tuned suspension, Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (V-LSD), 19-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels and drilled aluminum pedals.

“Infiniti built its reputation on a stunning combination of powerful rear-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles and outstanding customer service,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division. “The G35 has been a key element in our recent product line expansion and with the enhancements for 2005, our product momentum remains strong.”

The 2005 Infiniti G35 sedan and coupe with automatic transmissions are scheduled to be available at Infiniti dealers in North America beginning in October 2004. Manual transmission equipped models will go on sale in December 2004.

The announcement came during the Nissan 360 news media event, a three-week program in San Francisco featuring the automaker’s current and future worldwide product and business plans. At the event, about 500 reporters had the opportunity to drive nearly 70 Nissan and Infiniti vehicles to familiarize themselves with the breadth of Nissan’s global product lineup.

I understand its not breaking news, just something to consider. A friend of mine just purchased a red G35c. After 2 months, she is bored with it and wants to get something else.

Heh heh

I sold my G35C for an 8. The G35C is a great car and I had no complaints about it at all. I had a base coupe (auto) and had always wanted the 6MT. So I went alittle crazy and bought MT for the 8. The resale on G35C is absolutely amazing. I bought it for 29k and sold it for 28,500.

Motor trend car of the year for 2003, and autoweek coupe of the year for 2004, interior is a lot more luxurious than rx8 in my oppinion, its not that comparable vs rx8 though since its a luxury coupe that compete vs BMW 3 series, Acura TL etc. its NOT A SPORTS CAR. (i guess if u are really strict on the definition of sport car i.e. RWD, 2 seater, no moon roof.. RX8 dosnt qualift either, but i personally would still classify RX8 as a sport car)
Afterall the G35 is the current generation of SKYLINE, which is Nissan's flagship car in Japan, the navigation system is slick, it rises out of the center console. check out the APS twin turbo kit if 295hp isnt enough for ya.

I think its not worth getting the G35c since you already have the RX8 though, because the RX8 is practical enough as a good daily driver (something 350z owners cant claim). However, I thought you really liked the C6 Corvette, if you sell your RX8 and use the money you would spend on a G35c, then you can probably get that bad *** car :D drool..

Agreed. If they only made an entry-level G35C, with cloth interior, and none of the ICE BS, I would most definitely consider purchasing one (once I get pay off the RX-8 :o). I also hear the V35 is not friendly to modifications (no strut bar accomodation?). I hope that car doesn't go the way of the dish wheels bearing no performance.

Also, Phoenix's Power has one upped on GReddy and APS. Their Z33 runs off an HKS GT3037 that boasts 530 PS. Check it out at

Why? G35C's, from an unbiased source, run an average of a 14.2 seconds in the quarter. What's the big deal? Besides, just because a G35C runs faster than an RX-8 doesn't mean you are going to run the same. If you want straight line performance, get a Hemi Dart.

Recent Road & Track comparison between the Infiniti G35 coupe & RX8. RX8 won. Apparently while the G35 is nice, and they praised the higher torque the RX8 was a far better handling machine, that gave better feel for the driver.
