Very nice. The power was pleasently surprising. It drove like a boat. It's more wishy washy than my 94Buick Skylark. The steering is tighter but the car still yaws greatly.

So we went down to the dealership to test drive the GT. Did not seem like ir was worth the extra 7 grand. did not feel any faster than my 8.

My 8 flys with the Cobb unit.

What was really disapointing was the suspension. It was only slightly tighter than the V6.

These cars suck. It's nothing like the 2003 Roush Mustang I test drove.

Next I will have to test drive the Shelby.

fixed

"Shelby" is just marketing anymore. Roush does Mustangs right.

Anyway, I agree entirely about the review. I borrow a Mustang from a friend of mine and I was really excited to drive it, but walked away underwhelmed. Chinsy interior, and the V6 had torque but after the low-rev punch, it never really went anywhere and seemed really rough.

^To me they seem like big slush mobiles. I never got around to driving one though, I got the 8 instead.

I have also personally confirmed that V6 Mustangs are much slower than RX8s. Don't ask how.

i rented a gt-h for my birthday last year. sure the power was fun, well really fun, but it still felt cheap. the interior is so cheap plastic, the rear seats were small, its hard to see out of and drove like a boat. the worst feeling was stopping at a light and having 3 other mustangs there and stepping on the gas and my car sound exactly like the other ones so much i couldnt tell if i was even gassing.

Failed the test.....

I test drove a GT convertible. I wanted so much to like it. I just couldn't. The interior killed it for me almost from the start. Back seat..unusable other than storage which you don't need considering the trunk is fairly large. Nice engine sound and low down torque. Not as impressed with the top end. Clutch was heavy and long as I recall. Rear end bounce and hop was unsettling. I test drove the RX8 the same afternoon and instantly preferred it to the Mustang. Even though the tester I drove was an AT I still preferred it to the Mustang hands down.

The interior sucks, thats why I never test drove one until now.

I forgot to mention that my first impression was:

I'm driving on top of the road... it's very smooth... reminds me of a truck...

lets check the steering... swallow swallow swish WTF! This is worse than my Buick.

The GT-H is a pretty capable car... sounds great on the charge and surprisingly has loads of grip. Its a different car to the RX8 but the engine note alone makes its a worthy purchase.

I got stuck renting a convertible V6 when warranty work was being done on my 8. It snowed lightly that day so I was kinda nervous driving 30 miles to work. But it's heft kept it pretty planted on the stock tires. I'm 5'6" and didn't discover the seat height adjustment until a couple of hours before I returned it. So most of the time I felt like a decapitated head on a dinner table.

I have yet to get a Mustang V6 at Hertz. I hear the V6 is pretty peppy, but the rest of the car is a mixed bag. I think the interior is supbar. Ford is making some really uninspiring interiors.

My wife wanted on when they first came out. We drove one and we both hated it. When we got back to the dealership, the sales manager asked us how we liked it and we told him we hated it. He thought we were joking. We had to explain to him that we were not. They said they never heard that before. The power and the look was all we liked about it. To think, my wife almost pre-bought one. I had to talk her into waiting until they came out. My little brother has one. He likes it. But he likes muscle cars. It is his kind of car. He also bought it really cheap. It was used with only about 6,000 miles. I still don't like the car for the reasons mentioned.

I'm in the market for a new ride, and, while I'm heavily leaning towards the RX8, I ran the numbers and realized that I could get a a pretty loaded Mustang GT for about four grand less.

So I went to my neighborhood Ford dealer and drove one.

Suffice it to say, I shall not be buying one.

As others have commented, the GT just feels very heavy--seriously, my folks' mini-van would give it a run in the agility stakes (okay, maybe I exaggerate ever so slightly).

And the interior is utter crap. Utter, utter CRAP! When I pay for an interior upgrade option, I would actually like the upgrade pieces to be aluminum, not just plastic that looks like aluminum. And the fit and finish was pretty dire--parts of the dash felt like they would fall off with the application of only modest pressure. The much vaunted Shaker 500 audio system didn't seem anything to be too excited about, either--although I was just listening to the radio and not CDs.

The power seats seemed nice, though. But I would have liked more lateral support.

And, I do have to say, one thing that they got right was the exhaust note. It sounds really, really MEAN.

Unfortunately, the transmission felt big and clunky (like most everything else in the car), making it not very fun to actually drive.

So, it looks like I'm back to waiting for the 2009 RX8s to hit the dealers...

I have driven several previous generation Mustangs. This one puts it to shame.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the drive feel and handling (not that I went crazy on it) but compared to the last few Mustangs I have driven it felt better.

I was sorely disappointed in the power and torque. Not at all what a V8 should feel like on your butt dyno IMO.

LOL. I don't know Ike; I was really underwhelmed by it. Admittedly I have no idea what a stock 8 feels like.
