I picked a Chevy over a Hyundai as a rental - and I regret it

HOLY Crap - I'm in a 2006 Monte Carlo whilst my RX8's heater something-or-nother gets fixed and lemme just tell you this is perhaps the worst new car I've ever been in. NASTY. The car handles worse - by a LONG shot - than my wife's F150 SuperCrew 4x4. When I hit the brakes the front of the car goes down quicker than Ike at an EVO convention. I was getting car sick - literally car sick while driving that POS.

Wide, Flat, unsupportive seats, MASSIVE...dare I say 'titanic' amounts of body roll. My Sofa would probably do a better job at keeping me in place during traffic. This was perhaps the first car I can remember where I 'had' to keep both hands on the wheel to keep it going in the right direction. In order to have FOOT room, I had to back the seat so far I couldn't reach the radio comfortably. I'm no freak of nature with a 73" inseam - I'm 6'1" w/ a 36" inseam.

Oh - but the car is torquey. I honestly can't believe SOME GUY somewhere gave his stamp of approval on this POS.

That is all. I miss my RX8.

haha, had one before too. that car is insane.. it's a land yacht. 0-60 in like a week and a half and a suspension that just plain is indescribably sucky.

I rented a a Chevy Impala during a service stop with my 8 and besides the look (not bad) it was a total piece of crap. It had teribble handling, terrible brakes, the interior was circa 1970 what a POS. I also rented a 2006 Chevy Malibu this year and it was just AWFUL waht a totally crap car. It is hard to believe that Chevy makes what is one of the most incredible cars in the world the Corvette and turns out these heaps of junk. Lets not even get into the Aveo or Cobalt.

Even Buick can make pretty cars, the Lucerne is a pretty American sedan. Where do Chevey get their designers from???

I think I'd take the Hyundai too. On a side note, my friend had a 350z rental car the other day. That was my first time in one, and its really not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.

Funny you guys mention this...
A slight twist from cars though.

Last weekend I needed a small SUV and chose the Suzuki Vitara V6 over a Chevy Equinox at Avis.
Both had all Options.
The Vitara was tall and bulky with very tall gears, but the automatic suspension was decently tuned. The drive was up I-79 N from Charleston, WV (yes, lots of mountains) to Pittsburgh and back.
Gas mileage was slightly better than my 8, 22 MPG.

I passed many SUV's along the way as they lumbered and strained up some 20% grades as the Suzuki steered and handled better than I expected.

The return was through a near pea-soup fog, deer everywhere.
Glad I chose the Suzuki, especially if I had to mow down a deer...

They gave me a Merc. Montego as a loaner last time. That thing felt like a boat. A slow boat

Exactly, what do you expect from the lowest trim rental car that's been around the block more than a few times?

To contrast this, I was in a 2005? Ford FiveHundred from Ralliegh-durham to Myrtle Beach and back. 1000x better than the Chevy currently parked in my driveway.

handled better - more power - more comfort - better ergos...looked better too.

I've grown deeply concerned about GM.

This is different than their typical once-every-8-year crisis.

We should all hope that GM finds its feet soon.

I had one as a rental one time on a business trip. Body roll was awful. The only thing that impressed me was that it went to 60mph in first gear.

GM is still the largest car company in the world, by quite a bit. Even with the hits there taking, and the fact that Toyota has the chance to surpass them in the next 5-6 years. Ford (#3), isnt gaining ground, and no one else is in sight.

i do agree that they are in trouble, but they still sell millions of vehicles every year. And the fact that people are switching to asian car companies is just a trend, it could sway back to american cars if they ever get their **** together.

It's a trend that's gone on for 30 years, and seems to be accelerating.

regardless of how many cars they sell they arent hardly making any money, and that is where the problem lies.

Hehe now drive the Impala or Malibu. Shittiest cars on the road today. Hyundai makes a far better sedan than Chevy ever has.

So if someone were to give you a choice between an Impala SS or a Hyundai sedan, free of charge, you'd take the Hyundai sedan?
