HOLY Crap - I'm in a 2006 Monte Carlo whilst my RX8's heater something-or-nother gets fixed and lemme just tell you this is perhaps the worst new car I've ever been in. NASTY. The car handles worse - by a LONG shot - than my wife's F150 SuperCrew 4x4. When I hit the brakes the front of the car goes down quicker than Ike at an EVO convention. I was getting car sick - literally car sick while driving that POS.
Wide, Flat, unsupportive seats, MASSIVE...dare I say 'titanic' amounts of body roll. My Sofa would probably do a better job at keeping me in place during traffic. This was perhaps the first car I can remember where I 'had' to keep both hands on the wheel to keep it going in the right direction. In order to have FOOT room, I had to back the seat so far I couldn't reach the radio comfortably. I'm no freak of nature with a 73" inseam - I'm 6'1" w/ a 36" inseam.
Oh - but the car is torquey. I honestly can't believe SOME GUY somewhere gave his stamp of approval on this POS.
That is all. I miss my RX8.

I rented a a Chevy Impala during a service stop with my 8 and besides the look (not bad) it was a total piece of crap. It had teribble handling, terrible brakes, the interior was circa 1970 what a POS. I also rented a 2006 Chevy Malibu this year and it was just AWFUL waht a totally crap car. It is hard to believe that Chevy makes what is one of the most incredible cars in the world the Corvette and turns out these heaps of junk. Lets not even get into the Aveo or Cobalt.
Even Buick can make pretty cars, the Lucerne is a pretty American sedan. Where do Chevey get their designers from???

I think I'd take the Hyundai too. On a side note, my friend had a 350z rental car the other day. That was my first time in one, and its really not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.

Funny you guys mention this...
A slight twist from cars though.
Last weekend I needed a small SUV and chose the Suzuki Vitara V6 over a Chevy Equinox at Avis.
Both had all Options.
The Vitara was tall and bulky with very tall gears, but the automatic suspension was decently tuned. The drive was up I-79 N from Charleston, WV (yes, lots of mountains) to Pittsburgh and back.
Gas mileage was slightly better than my 8, 22 MPG.
I passed many SUV's along the way as they lumbered and strained up some 20% grades as the Suzuki steered and handled better than I expected.
The return was through a near pea-soup fog, deer everywhere.
Glad I chose the Suzuki, especially if I had to mow down a deer...

I used to *swear* the world had not seen the day when I'd drive a Hyundai. Well, finally the day came (thx Mazda) where I was stuck with a 2006 Sonnata and couldn't buy my way out of it (my previous near-miss with a Hyundai had been prevented by my upgrading a business rental to a covertible Mustang for $6 out of my own pocket).
Worst parts was...... I kinda liked it. Roomy, comfortable, smooth, quiet, plus a well powered V6. Geez, if only the Taurus could be all that American cars might have a shot.

To contrast this, I was in a 2005? Ford FiveHundred from Ralliegh-durham to Myrtle Beach and back. 1000x better than the Chevy currently parked in my driveway.
handled better - more power - more comfort - better ergos...looked better too.

i do agree that they are in trouble, but they still sell millions of vehicles every year. And the fact that people are switching to asian car companies is just a trend, it could sway back to american cars if they ever get their **** together.

regardless of how many cars they sell they arent hardly making any money, and that is where the problem lies.
