So i just turned 16 and my parents are letting me get an RX-8. I was wondering what you guys think. Should i wait until i graduate high school (in 2 years) and then get it or just get it now and enjoy it? Do you guys know if there will be any new models comming out soon or anything? thanks for the help.
Go hug your folks....
There will always be newer, faster, better worries out there. SO if you like the RX8 as is, go ahead and get it.
Don't be stupid with it, learn to drive within your limits.

silly wabbit. That's why he's looking into an rx-8 and not a 911 Turbo. Once he masters the 8 then his parents will plunk down a Carrera Turbo upon graduation.
When my parents purchased my 8 last year, it was a graduation present. I have no complaints about it. It's a great car for any Road course or for an auto-x.
I say get it and enjoy it now, but I also have reasons to not get it and just wait til graduation.
Reasons to: Attracts attention to females, great car to drive any time.
Reasons not to: Attracts ******** who key (unless your student parking lot has cams), wastes fuel quicker (get a beater 4 banger until graduation), and I think that's about it.
I, myself, couldn't tell you what's coming out in the next two years, so if you were to wait for the 8 anyways and Mazda comes out with something new that you like, you could only benefit off that by not having the 8 yet and getting that - as well as any other manufacturer.

oh great! another 16 year old getting an 8 from mommy and daddy that has absolutely no business driving such a car for their first car.
please keep us posted on WHEN you get into an accident and be sure to post pics.

hey be nice now i got mine when i was 16, just remember that this car is a whole lotta fun IN THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT. first hand experience taught me this. i felt stupid cause i nearly destroyed my 8. i was pushing the limit and lost control and hit a sign, good news was that it was only body damage. i got it fixed and during that period of no car i really came to appreciate the car and any car for that matter.
if you are willing to spend $50 for gas every 4 to 5 days then go ahead and get it.... if you are in a budget like i was in high school get something more reliable.....

I got my 8 as a graduation present. I'd recommend learning on something else. And I don't mean learning how... There is a learning process that takes a few years before you really start falling into driving. I wouldn't recommend doing that on an 8. I just don't think 16 year olds have enough responsibility to drive an 8 responsibly. I did some stupid crap in my 4000 lb caddy that I would never do in my 8.
Get something cheap and safe and enjoy it, then upgrade when you graduate.

considering the age of your peers, theres a lot of ignorant kids out there, you will likely catch a lot of trash talk and criticisms about the rx8's lack of power if you get it.
omg i almost died laughing. i forgot how much i find Mugatu post refreshing.

I got a '89 RX7 when I was in high school (of course that was 13 years ago and I paid for it myself). That was plenty of car for me as I almost died a few times doing stupid things, but that's just living. You can just as easily get killed in a Corolla.
If I had the opportunity to to get something like the 8 in high school, I damn sure would have took it.
There is always something newer and better coming out years down the road. If you pass up the RX-8 now you might want something different 2 years later and you would never get to enjoy this brilliant car. You can always get something different later...
