Well guys i think i might be trading my car i have an appointment this afternoon to test drive one i love my rx8 but not very happy with my horsepower lets see how i feel when i sit in the sti if i do purchase the first thing thats going is the ugly wing :(

Hey if thats what you want to do good luck. If you really like the style of the WRX then there is nothing really bad to say about the car. Good luck--let us know how it turns out.

i belive the wing on the STI is a functional wing and the tuning of the suspension system takes its downforce/stability into account, so just taking it off should be ok for daily driving but i dunno about a track day or highspeed.

Also if you make the switch, you should be pretty used to the MPGs it pretty much the same.

I love the STI, esp the new 06 body, very neat looking car and good performance. enjoy it if you do get it post some pics. For me it would be white with gold wheels or blue with gold wheels...mmmm mmmm

When you say your not happy with the horsepower...do you mean the numbers people are getting, or the actual feel of the speed in the car. I always wonder that, if there wasnt a number put with the power of the car, I mean if you only had to judge the power by speed and feel, would there be as many people unhappy with the 8?

I think the car feels descently fast, especialy for a 3300lb car (me in the car with some gas) with 180hp at the wheels I think it moves pretty good.

Oh dont get me wrong my 8 is no snail but after my mods i feel i should of had more horsepower when i dynoed the car it was a very sad afternoon. I think ill go with silver on silver or blue and gold well see right now iam just going to test drive i know the car inside is no way compare to my 8 so that will disappoint me right off but i think the all wheel drive will get me hooked!!

you could always turbo, I mean, wouldnt the cost of you putting a GReddy with the Interceptor-X EMS be cheaper then the difference for an STI? I mean, trade in wise, youll get alot less then the purchase price, and the STI is more expensive to start with. You could make more then the STI with a turbo as well.

I dunno, Im just thinking cost benefit wise, the money you put into a good turbo set up, will give you a car that I beileve will be faster then the STI.

only complaints you can have about the sti are
1) looks.
2) comfort. it's pretty tiny. it's funny watching a somewhat tall person try to sit in the front seat when someone is sitting behind him. it's a harsh ride in the back seats too.

none of that stuff matters though if you're going for performance. it's quite the addicting ride and you'll hate the lack of hp on your 8 even more after driving the STi. :)

You know the power is there on the STi so make sure you take into account some of the other things...headroom, legroom, shifter ergonomics, seats, cabin noise, etc. And if you're in the market for an STi it goes without saying that it'd be worth your while to test drive an Evo as well. The whole Evo vs. STi is like comparing Coke to Pepsi and a million magazines have already done it, but I went with an Evo instead for a couple of reasons...handling is crisper, engine tunability of the 4G63 is amazing, more headroom, better visibility and I'm a stone's throw from the best Evo dealership in the country. In any event it's a great time to be in the market for either one of these 2 cars for a couple of reasons. First of all the prices of the '05 models should drop a little when the first '06 models hit the lots. The '06 STi is already arriving and the '06 Evo IX should be here pretty quick as well. Power is unchanged regardless of the model year with the STi...'04, '05 or '06. My personal opinion is that the best value on an STi would be the '05. For the Evo it's a little different because the '05 model is up about 20whp and 15wtq from the '03 and '04 models. However the '06 model will have additional hp/tq in the midrange and topend because of the addition of variable valve timing. It's a catch 22 though. Out of the box the '06 Evo IX will be slightly quicker than any previous Evo VIII, but it's going to take the aftermarket a little bit of time to catch up with the variable valve timing. The ECU will of course will different, and new heads mean that new aftermarket camshafts will need to be developed. Just some food for thought if you plan to mod the car. Yes and no. The MR is about $35k, the GSR is about $29k and the RS was about $27k. The STi is right around $32k I believe. And of course figure an extra $500 to $1000 will be added to each model's 2006 succesor.

BTW...smrx8...the Evo is not offered with side-impact airbags and in 2003 and 2004 they offered NO subsequent side protection whatsoever beside your door. The 2005 model has reinforced door beams. If safety is a concern, both cars are best of class in frontal crash test safety. The Impreza's front seat occupants fair better in side impact collisions though.

I made the rx8 to STi jump and haven't regreted it for a second...sure i miss the smooth ride and pleasing cockpit...but who needs that when your one of the fastest cars on the road...this car is pure excitement...but i'd wait for the 06.... thats if you like the new look...just traded in my 04 sti for an 06

Well, I purchased both in 2004, since I was unable to decide which one I wanted as a fun car. It turned out that neither was the right choice for a fun car, but then the decision came for which will work better as a year round daily, since we have harsh winters. The RX8 lost that battle, and an S2000 took it's place as my pure fun summer car, and I have no regrets. I can't say I chose the STI over RX8 directly. Two things made it a no brainer. Practicality, and year round driveability. In your situation, it appears performance is what's most important, so it's the right call. Having used both as half daily drivers/ fun cars, I have to say the STI is just a better choice for me personally. You get that amazing performance, more room, better gas mileage (26-28mpg highway), and my personal experience says more durability and less headaches of having to take it to dealer all the time, as was the case with my RX8. I will say, I miss miss the stunning looks, comfort, and the amenities. For me, all the goodies offered were what fits well for a daily driver, not a fun summer car. If I lived in Florida, the STI would have been gone plain and simple. If you are buying this as a pure fun car, I'd definitely check out the EVO as well. If this is gonna be a daily, my opinion says the STI is the better choice over the EVO. The EVO is pure hardcore, whereas the STI isn't as nimble, and more daily friendly, without sacfiricing power. I have driven those 2 cars and they are ok, but I think the VW R32 is the best out of the all wheel drive pocket rockets. It is hard to find one though.

I agree, with the exception of it's rarity and insanely high price used. IMO, it's not better enough to spend a couple grand more for a used one over STI and EVO. I test drove a preowned 04 at dealer, and loved it, except for the fact that dealer wasn't willing to budge an inch, knowing it would sell easily. It is considerably slower, and handling is not as good as an STI, but it's luxurious, and very refined. The problem was they made only 5000 of them, and never since. Those 5000 sold fast, and that car is gonna hold it's value very well for a long time. They are not that hard to find used. You just can't find a deal on them like STI, RX8 and EVO. If you want one, you gots to pay $$$$.

The R32 is a cool car but it is a little bit overpriced. My buddy bought one in the summer of '04 and loves it. He's not really a "car guy" though, so it's still bone stock and I doubt that will ever change. It does make for a decent tuning platform though, albeit a normally aspirated one. I personally like the R32. If I had the money I'd get one for my daily driver (I need a hatch really bad right now) and then mod the snot out of the Evo. But back when I was looking at the Evo it never entered into my mind. It might have a few more creature comforts, but for the price and the sacrifice in performance...no way. It was either gonna be an Evo or STi for me.

Best at having the nicest interior maybe, beyond that I fail to see any other advantages.
