Agreed on V-Tech. You have to use a V-Tech to make a call in to V-TEC to make a reservation for VTEC to kick in.

it sounds nice, the main reason i dont want to do that is the disruption of air flow. I havnt had the privelage of wrenching before the cat, but i assume its a 2.5 diameter, which leads to the cat which is like 4 inches and then back to 2.5 or 3 or whatever.

Maybe if the cat was cut open and a pipe welded in there that would be nicer, but that would effectively make it a straight pipe which is not cool.

That's exactly what I thought. Someone posted a pic of the inside of a gutted cat recently and it looks like it would disrupt the flow at least a bit. I am not an expert on air flow or anything so I don't know how much of an effect it would really have.

My cat gutted itself, it was an easy choice.

^ If your using the oem exhaust (cat gutted) you have to be very aggressive with the revs, bounce them 7.5k and 9k (full throttle, no light tapping). Hold your revs at around 4k for about 30 secs prior to heat up the exhaust, and obviously don't do it till the engine is fully warmed.
Don't keep doing it for to long, your coolant temp is going to go up fast, mine went from 180 to 210 in that video.

You are also going to need a camera or camera man, you wont be able to see them while reving, oem exhaust has little flames, the factory muffler is the reason.

rx8 flames

I have an 04 rx8 with a magniflow system, yet I wanted to make it spit flame I have read by removing the catalytic converter it will make the trick but if I do that will it work if I still have the magniflow catback exhaust?

Yes it will work fine. The only company that in the past had fitment issues when you used different brands was turboXS but I think that has been fixed.

Right here. Flames with a high-flow cat and OBX exhaust.

But let me clarify. It's not the ideal setup for flames. Example: I will be in second gear, slowly roll onto the throttle until about 7k and then lay into it until 9k rpm and let off and hear what sounds like an underpowered shotgun come from behind me. The goal is to get the exhaust hot and also dump as much unburned fuel into it as possible. This is the best way I have found to do it with my setup. Luckily the little canister/resonator on my exhaust is good at collecting it.

I will get flames out the back. It's not like the usual ones though, more like my exhaust tips sneeze fire. A short little burst. That is the most I can hope for but I don't really care about huge flames.

Flames suck, because you always need to wash the soot off....

That is one of the problems, my bumper gets incredibly dirty from having a midpipe. That brown crap on the bumper takes some serious elbow grease to get cleaned off.

I skipped washing my car for two months and didn't have any soot on my bumper. Maybe cause I have my tip set as far out as I can?

Have any UK members done this? Does it pass a smog test when you take it for MOT?
I have an all stock rx8 except for my racing beat dual res midpipe and a weapon r intake. If I bounce it off the rev limiter it will shoot small ones but it still does it.

I have a 2004, was all stock as far as I knew when I got it. Just added the has hi power exhaust cat back, thought about a mid pipe but was going to wait for a bit. I noticed a flash behind me when driving tonight so I setup my phone cam and revved it a bit, and got some decent sized flames with what I am under the impression is a non tampered with cat (unless a previous owner gutted it and it has not affected the obd2 testing) I was shocked but happy with what I saw when I watched what my phone recorded with just the cat back on a stock setup.
