wow I never expected that comment from you, you have a great looking RX8. The new STI is bland as can be, hell I saw a red one the other day that looked almost like a matrix. So yeah for AWD I choose the EvoX, way better looking and more aggressive looking too.

Very good prices on 08 Evo X's, similar to what Subaru had late last year. Test drive a bunch and see what you like.
08 STI's aren't pretty but after you change a few things they can look nice. I like mine more now than when I bought it. The hatch has come in handly several times. Carrying four tires, the OEM exhaust, etc that would not have fit in a sedan. The Evo's are better looking and more Mod friendly as well it seems.

Only having driven the 08 sti I can say its a really well put together car and gives you the ability to drive it how you like it with the SI drive feature. Its very quick and very practical leaving room for your friends, family, and whoever want to get in your car as well as whatever crap you want to throw in it. It has the capability to be even more of a speed demon if you really want that and depending on where you live awd can be a blessing. Its a well rounded car for someone looking for fun practicality well other then the price thats a little steep or at least they were when they first came out. My dad is actually the owner of the 08 sti its his secondary car and its a blast i have nothing bad to say about it. Ive driven the 350z its fun and a very different drive you have to figure out what you want in a car.

First off, I want to thank all of you for your advice on this topic -- very helpful.
I stopped off at a Mitsu dealer this morning, and starting working them over on the EVO X. I got them to come down to a very attractive price, and was going to close the deal this evening. Unfortunately, the 0% financing rate is only available for someone with a very high credit score, something I feel short of by single digits.
I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I'm eligible for rock bottom financing on a house, and I can't be trusted with 0% on a car. Their requirements were high enough that it makes me question who would actually be eligible and interested in a Mitsubishi.
The dealership I was working with on the Z completely struck out as well. When I arrived today they had the car ready to go -- all shined up and looking good. The salesman was trying to get me emotionally vested in the car -- by giving me the keys and suggesting he show me "how everything works".
Then we get down to business. All of the prices, rates, and terms had changed dramatically. They accuse me of "misunderstanding" the terms, which is total crap. In either case, I highly recommend you avoid Nissan World of Red Bank, NJ.
Its pretty apparent that both the cars I'm interested in our going to cost me an arm and a leg. I'll get my toes wet, but I'm not ready to take a full bath to get out of the STi.
Once again, thanks to all of you.

With the economy taking dump and the banks losing money they are being really tight with preferred rates. 700 used to get you a decent rate and 720 would get you a really good rate. I believe everything moved up 20 pts so now you need minimum 720 and preferably 740. Do what ever you can to get to 800 and then you will have no worries

It kills me that I was only a few points away, and they acted like there was some huge difference. Like a person with a 726 was any less likely to pay than someone with a 730. The bottom line is that lending money is risky, and regardless of the score you have to give people the benefit of the doubt. In my opinion they lose today, because that EVO will sit on their lot for another couple of months.

I've learned a valuable lesson this time around. If you don't love the looks from the get go they probably won't grow on you with time. My wife was pushing me away from the EVO, and towards the STi, and unfortunately I listened. She was probably thinking about car seats and strollers, while I was thinking about neck turning looks and speed. I would have taken some flack for going EVO, but in the long run things would have been happier for all. She has to listen to me complain about the STi all the time now.

I can't afford a new Vett, and the good BMW's are to expensive. I was all over some older Z06's before picking up the 08, but the numbers never worked out correctly. High finance rates, and the difficultly of finding a good used Corvette just wore thin on me.
