Not to sound like a dick... BUT.

If it's so straight-forward, why does it cost €20,000 to do the swap?

But i gotta admit, thats a nice job you guys did! good job Hansa!

This precise thread is EXACTLY why i joined RX-8 Club (considering i have a MX-5). But looking at the price, i'm a bit disappointed.

He said they're building one as well, and said theirs would be cheaper. to quote, he said "quite a bit" cheaper.

I am in no way going to compete with these fine folks in Germany who aren't working on it like I am but, rather, FINISHED with their project. I should have been done a long time ago. We're dealing in toally different markets with different currencies. I more than applaud what they've done and wouldn't mind collaborating even.

I want to provide a kit that would make sense to an NC (06 MX5) owner with all the options that are becoming available for the LF and L3 engines like turbos and superchargers. The biggest reason for the swap is there's nothing else that can go into that chassis that would be so 'buttery smooth', rev so high, fit so well, not to mention being from the same manufacturer.

Paul.

Wow, that's a lot of extra trunk space in that MX-5. Amazing thread, thanks.

Sickness! Any performance numbers? Braking/lateral acceleration? I'm guessing it should also be more economical fuel wise since it's pushing 600 or so less lbs..

All the miatas have ultraleggeras!!! Good choice.

So what does a mazmart swap run? I've always wanted a rotary-NB.

Ha ha! We aren't quite there yet. Ours is using much more existing parts for as much simple plug and play as possible. I'll give an update on ours soon enough.

In the mean time, congrats on these beautiful conversions so far.

Paul.

One of our cars were tested by the german magazine "Autobild", here is an online version:

1-100 km/h / 62 mph in 6.7 seconds? Of course, that's not the sole measure of a car, but why so slow?

My private car was tested and I asked them to keep the clutch alive.
But it's still half a second quicker than a factory RX-8 tested some month before...

Elisemk1, I'm going to ask you what should have been asked you 1.5 years ago and especially now with rumors that a new RX7 might be around 2650 lbs.

(1) How much does your renesis miata weigh? How much did it weigh originally?

(2) What kind of MPG have you gotten?

That makes the RX8's time from 0-60 in ~ 7.2. Must've been an auto.

Weight is about 50 kgs less now, but with bigger wheels & brakes.

Fuel consumption as tested is 18 US MPG aka 13.1 litres/100km.

The tested RX-8 was also a manual.

As long as you've got the power to back it up (and you do), big *** tires on an NC make the car as far as I'm concerned. Looks really great. I imagine it handles fantastic.

Fastest 0-60 time in a MT RX-8 is 5.9 s. If you're less than 2600 lbs, you should be well south of that, but I can understand you're not wanting to kill your clutch.

Ever thought of adding forced induction with all of that extra space you've got under the hood?

I would personally find adding FI to such a glorious car would be a waste. For a good track-car the balance between grip and power is very important. Right now I would estimate that the car is extremely easy to drive. The smooth power delivery and "low" power makes the driver trust the car and dares to go on the gas early.

Kick it upp to 350-400 hp and you must suddenly be careful when you hit the gas. On a twisty track most drivers would get slower by adding a turbo. The pro drivers will get faster.

i've personally done 5.9s 0-60.

with the fully loaded grand touring. powered adjustable seats, bose stereo. etc. 3100lbs i think. all stock except 245/40 toyo t1r tires.

if you drop 500lbs off that...

you should be doing sub 6s for sure.

did you keep the stock mx5 transmission? anyone know the gearing for those?

what are you rpms at 14mph in first gear?

Hey everyone! Long time since i've posted in this thread. I am currently in the process of adding RX-8 front (manual) brakes to my car, along with a RX-8 4.44 LSD. At first i was just going to use these items to better the cars braking, handling, and acceleration. But now, with the NC2 out (2009, revised version) i am kind of mad. They put all forged internals in the new engine, a higher redline, and a nice new look (both interior and exterior).

So, i am stuck between two decisions.

A) Buy a 2009 with all of its nice new goodies and swap all of my aftermarket parts over (then sell my 2006).
or
B) Say screw it to the 2009, and with the same amount of money i'd lose on the trade in, cost of new car, etc... i could put that towards the Renesis Swap.

What does everyone think?

Well I would first "DRIVE" a Demo NC2 and see if the "Changes" or Goodies are worth the cost to you, but, I agree the 09 NC2 is a lot better looking MX-5, I personally think the best Yet!...that's why I want to get one of them too before the all new 1.6 Turbo ND in 3 years with radical sylling.... I like the Classic look to the NC2. ( I will still keep my 8).

Forget B, if you are not worried about resale then do it, BUT once you do you will lose a lot.
Doing a renny swap on a perfect 5 IMO is stupid, yes do it to a wreck, but a perfectly good 5 is just flushing money down the drain, you might as well buy an 09 RX-8?..
