GTR trannies blowing left and right (6 so far in one thread)
http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=27965
Begins with the OP stating his trans troubles at only 1000 miles and no launches what so ever. Suddenly there are 6 members now stating the same thing, the dual clutch trans is locking out the even number gears and throwing codes left and right.

Offer it with a manual trans. I don't care if it'll have a slower 0-60 time, but at least it'll be durable. Nissan definitely knows how to be build a strong 6 speed trans (R34 GTR's, 350/370Z, etc).
Btw, one upshot of offering the car with a 6MT would be a lower price!

This decade for Nissan has sucked for trannies. There 02/03 Maxima- tranny issues. early 350Z-tranny issues, 05-07 Titans -tranny issues. Now there GT-R, where is Nissan getting there transmissions from,China?

Nope

Ive heard Nissan issuing a recall to disable the launch control system after numerous transmissions have imploded and they have had to replace too many under warranty.
Good job, Nissan, you make something weaksos and then try to go back on your word by disabling a system so in the end the customer has to pay for your engineering shortcomings.

Who knows what all the crazy rev matching they've introduced will do to the tranny.
And I think they disabled the launch feature in the 2010 GTRs but the earlier ones will keep them. Not that it mattered since their warranty got voided if they used it too much.
These reports are people who aren't using the launch and STILL having their trannies get jacked up.

haha, i remeber talking about this when i worked at nissan before the cars came out.... all the mechanics were like, yeah its awesome, but the tranny wont last

I couldn't care less about the GTR, but all I have read about tranny issues is a few (<10) people out of what? 2000 GTRs? bitching about their tranny blowing up. All inevitably claim they did nothing wrong and in most cases I've read, Nissan's black box shows signs of abuse.

set launch mode
mash pedal
it holds the rpm (or hits a certain rpm) and then BAM, off you go!
It's the equivilant of bombing the clutch at 7,000 rpm's, only it automates the process

I think most of the supercars are doing similar systems, I'm pretty sure the Lambo LP640 (Murcielago) has it on their Auto as well.
Must be FUN but pretty brutal on the transmission if used too often

"Automates the launch"
ya know what.. if someone isn't smart enough to know how to launch the damned car.. they don't need to either own the f`ing thing or at least be launching it to begin with... good grief.

yeah, but it lets the Automatic guys get in on all the fun.
Sure beats the old days where you'd take an automatic, put it in neutral, rev the CRAP out of it, and then slam it into Drive!

Does any car manufacturer make or have made for them an Automatic Transmission for High Performance (HPC), High RPM Cars that does not have reliability issues..
As we know Mazda has to detune (RPM's, etc) the RX-8 with either the 4 or 6 speed Auto for long term reliability.
Just curious...is there any brand that can last the distance?

They basically took a manual trans...and automated it with a dual clutch...no torque converters or hydro pumps needed...
But to answer your question...no...unless your talking about the old-school v8 class hydromatics...3 speed and 4 speed sometimes with overdrive...
Mine used to hold a 489ft/lbs torque monster no problem...with the shift kit...if the air got misty...i was driftin to skewl...

I know its not the same, but imagine if Mazda recalled ours to disable the A/C or power windows.....
