thoughts? yes, why not just spend a couple more thousand and get the STI, mor hp, better handling/brakes, just all out better. ?? buying a wrx is like buying an auto 8 w/o the sport package(16 inch wheels, not as good suspension...etc).

Not so good at math huh? WRX TR is 23,995 MSRP and 22,562 invoice and STI is 32,995 and 31,044. National average market price for an STI is 9k+ more than a WRX TR. Your analogy is about as bad as your math.

Lastly, BoVs make WRXs run poorly and is a ricer mod and bigger turbo as a 1st mod is moronic.

a friend of mine has an 04 WRX (not sti) and it defeinitly feels much more punchy and like you said the interior is a little cheap looking. the options for a stereo are great though, my friend just put in the eclipse touch screen nav/dvd/stereo. The door are hella light but then again there is also no frame around the window. I like the new styling but i think the new evo (next years or so) will take the cake.

 

That's not new styling in the form of a new car, that's just a facelift. The new Impreza will be debuted at the NYAS in April, but probably not the new WRX or STI version.

This is exactly the kind of thread that belongs in the general automotive section, and is the reason why general automotive exists. Just because your whole world revolves around the RX-8 or whatever car you happen to own at any given time doesn't mean there are plenty of us that can appreciate all kinds of different cars. Anyway, waiting on Subaru to give the car a decent looking exterior for once. Besides that...fun car.

 

WRX is one of the best cars at it's price point I think. They hold their value pretty well too. The new STI Limited is nice in white with the lip spoiler. Nothing Subaru makes is "pretty" but it has a rugged, tough look to it.

 

Because its not just a couple thousand in price difference it more like $5000 dollar or more difference.

oh and, he got it for 24k out the door. If he could have managed a new sti for anywhere near that he would have! heh, a couple grand, more like 9-11k more. Can't wait to see exactly how much "faster" it is than my 8

 

It'll certainly be a decent amount quicker since some guys are getting high 13s with the '06. It won't be much faster, but it'll probably feel faster than it really is compared to your 8.

 

I like the blue better. After owning a white car in the past, I'm never doing that again. Too bland.

 

I think those "tuner ready" versions are a cool idea. In fact if they had a stripped down, wingless version of the STi it might be sitting in my garage right now instead of the Evo. I'm indifferent on the looks. It's not pretending to be sex on wheels. Let the performance speak for the car. However I've never understood why the heatsoakers at Subaru won't put an FMIC on their turbo charged Imprezas. I guess it's the same reason they put Bridgestone RE070's on the car from the factory and wouldn't bring the beefier EJ20 over from Japan. I love the Impreza lineage but it seems like the US versions could be more aggressive in places.

I've heard that the EJ207 spectacularly fails emissions testing over here, so they had to go with the bigger engine. The EJ257 seems to improve the car, according to a lot of reviews that've been done, so I think we made out decently well in that department. Everything else you've said, though,

 

The EJ207 actually passed US emmissions, barely. Rumor has it that Subaru is very conscience of their image as a "green" company so they chose to go with a more environmentally sensitive engine. Those JDM STi motors are facking amazing though. I was at Gruppe-S when Mike Warfield was tuning a WRX that had just had a JDM engine swap. It was a totally stock JDM motor, 35k miles, stock tune and stock ECU. That thing put down the same numbers STOCK as a USDM STi would if it were running an exhaust and tune. They were blown away.

 

Those engines are pretty incredible. It's too bad that they didn't offer an EJ207-powered edition of the STi for a year or so before phasing in the EJ257. It sounds like the added lag would have been well worth it.
