Got a WRX!

I still have the 8, the wrx is a friend's.

I lied, but my friend got one. 06 WRX TR w/fogs and a couple other misc items brand new for $24,000 out the door. Hell of a price but they had to meet Jan quota and it was the last 06 on the lot.

Anyways, any of your guys' thoughts on the WRX (not sti)? I got to drive it home and you can definitely feel the extra torque/awd, feels pretty strong in comparison with the 8 (couldn't really open her up though, not broken in). Body roll is apparant and the stock tires aren't the greatest. Interior is laughable but he got it based on 2 things - He fits in it (6'4" and growing) and the performance bang for buck.

Thoughts?

My neighbor has the 06 wagon, too bad the turbo is way up there in the rpm. Brakes are better, calipers has 4 piston on each. Easily feel the power.

The '06 WRX is a really nice car, better in just about every way compared to my old '03. Save for the Bugeyes Tell you friend to change the tires asap as it makes the car much more enjoyable to drive, a rear sway is a nice cheap mod as well. In addition an accessport and exhaust are other simple fairly inexpensive mods that will improve the car. I actually got improved gas mileage and it smoothed out the car in the rev range with the accessport.

RW, not sure why you would say that considering the new 2.5L in the WRX has lots of power downlow and the turbo is spooling several hundred RPMs before your Renesis comes to life.

Fun car but feels heavy and doesn't change directions like an RX-8.

If you want more power . . . the turbo upgrades are fairly cheap. I like the wrx more than an evo. Not my cup of tea, but they do make a good car. I think they are still ranked in the top 5 for reliability, so no complaints there. Just be careful with the tranny.

Edit - They are a GREAT car!!! we are going to mammoth this weekend . . . ask him if he wants to drive

I had a '03 WRX which I liked but the added displacement in '06 is great. Like mentioned above, the stock tires are crap. I had my '03 on Tein coilovers and stock STi BBS wheels and tires and it made a big difference in handling. Still didn't feel as connected as an RX-8 but nothing I've ever driven felt as secure when conditions got crappy.

I don't like the redesign they did. I liked the older style front end better.

Was what I was going to get instead of my eight... It was just so damn ugly though.. insurance was nasty as well (the eight is a "1.3l 4 door"... was rated the same as my 2.0l n/a subaru legacy by my insurance.. go figure). Cleared headlights and the reg wrx sideskirts go a long way towards de-uglification.

Yeah, he fits fine in the rx8. Don't you think it would be weird though if your friend owns a car and a year later you get the same identical thing? Besides, the WRX doesn't lack in torque like our poor little 8's :p

Heh, and no, I'm not calling you retarded.

I considered a wrx for a while. It looked nice on the spec sheet, but couldn'g get passed the stylin' inside and out. Cool ride though.

get to drive between both frequently and I much prefer the interior and smoothness of the RX8, although the power in the WRX is very.. VERY nice..

I just came from a WRX wagon ('05). Had it at Stage II power mods and springs/sways/endlinks for suspension, as well as wheel tire upgrade. Used to track it every other month on the local roadcourses and the brakes would only sustain about 20 minutes of track time before asking to come back in.
From the factory, the RX8 is a joy to drive around the track, brakes phenomenally well (and can sustain hard braking as long as I want to stay out lapping), and handles well turn key with a much more sensory inducing overall "sports car" feel and sound while lapping.
The WRX, although very quick and capable was number and registered less enthusiast feel in general. Still a great car. IMO it needs a good coilover and a BBK to do what I want it to do.

WRX's are great. I test drove the STI when i bought my 8 and loved it but they were asking to much money for it. The only other WRX they had was an AT and I didn't want an AT. I'm with Steakboy with the new style front. I don't like the looks of the new style. I like the new lights just not that circular part where the Subaru emblem goes.

Sweet ride.

I prefer the previous styling also.

Regarding Subaru's late face lift, the grill where the emblem is... there have been amusing allusions to a specific part of the female anatomy. Kekeke.

It looks like with the new Legacy, they are dumping that design motif. Good riddance.

Yeah, everything indicates that Corporate face with the airplane gille is going to be canned.

How in the hell do you fit? I'm 5' 8" and only have an inch or so of clearance. That seat must be leaned way back or something.

Certainly overall height is a factor, but I think length of your upper torso and vertical height of your head matters significantly.

The Impreza RS wagon is one of those cars I dream about having as a daily driver if I could somehow justify owning two cars eight months out of college. The WRX would be a great all around car to have and they're virtually bulletproof. A rear sway upgrade does wonders for the handling.

Also how straight you sit up. I'm a shorty at 5'6" but only have a couple inches of headroom because I sit pretty much straight up.
