Funniest Chevy recall

This is why I remain skeptical about American auto build quality still. This is the best recall I have seen in a while; they left the brake pads off some of their cars

Enjoy: http://www.autoweek.com/article/2011...late=mobileart

The missing part could lengthen the stopping distance, potentially contributing to a crash, the company said

Interesting. I'm not sure if they have done any analysis around this...

It also speaks to the complete lack of car knowledge that Americans have to not notice how terrible the car is at stopping. Even if it was that single car, you know it has gone through many different rental hands, including the staff of the rental car facility since it was just brought in for service. How could they fail to notice that the brakes were complete garbage at stopping the car?

Or does GM use a brake caliper design that allows the piston to move and lock in place, NOT against the rotor, restoring brake force to the rest of the calipers without having the empty piston grinding the rotor itself?

WOW! REALLY?

I like how GM's commercial is always about how their "QUALITY" tops Toyota and other manufactures ... ROFLMAOCOPTER LOL LOL LOL !

and I totally agreed with RIWWP, seriously? people don't notice the car's brake performance is complete ****? no complaints? Really?

Like I always told my GF and friends, there are WAY too many people that shouldn't be driving/incapable of driving are actually driving ... Thx to these morons/idiots for our sky high insurance.

amazing.... "could" lengthen stopping distance....

maybe the brakes on the Sonic are just so garbage that missing brake pads make no difference?

Pressing the brake pedal actually opens a flap to the ground under the car and lets your heel drag on the ground to slow you down.

The Jalopnik comment thread on this is hilarious. Not what I was expecting.

Just changing up "if it was built in <country> instead of the US...." jokes

Yeah and I thought,

Now when the US test driver or production guy drives these Sonic's off the line and puts his foot on the brake pedal...I wonder what he thought???

Great QC!

I'm disappointed in Chevy. I have always thought Ford would have made a mistake like that.

X2!! I was laughing, sitting here all my my self. I felt kinda dumb for a minute. This is my favorite one.

In China, missing brake pads are a safety feature. Slowing down in intersections simply means you're in danger that much longer.

yet the UAW workers strike cause they feel they need more money, and can't even put a brake pad on a car, completely ridiculous

As part of a "X" GM family, I have to say their quality has gone to **** since the early 90's.

88 bonniville, lasted 210k and 14years, spun bearing, no issues other than a/c.

96 grand am gt, coil issues, fuel pump issues, theif lock issues, and intake gasket issues.

97 gmc truck, has had more alternators put on it than anyone in the family can count.

97 grand am se, well at least they got the a/c issues figured out, can't say much about the rest of the poor car.

04 grand am gt, where do I start... Wheel bearings, theif lock, ignition, intake gasket, head gasket, broken coolant level sensor, alt, Bcm replaced 4 times, the 5th time it went out I hotwired the car and traded it in for the 8.

07 gmc truck, intake gasket, wheel speed sensors replaced 3 times, transmission stop going into reverse. And it only has 35k on it...

Needless to say none of us buy GM anymore... Ford, Toyota and Mazda is how we roll these days.

I went to school with a couple of guys that used to worked on the assembly line in Detroit. They would throw a empty beer can into a fender area, just before it was welded up. Then laugh at the thought that the new owner would have a rattle that they could never get rid of.

You think it's hilarious that some overpaid 3rd grade rejects have no pride in their job, which btw also reflects on American manufacturing in general, and engage in such childish, immature behaviour as a result?

I suppose people with that mindset might consider it hilarious ....

Yep... Its genetic, my dad used to build chimneys when he was younger.

His boss and him used to drink beer and throw the cans down the holes in the brick of the chimney. they thought it was funny, guy was from Germany, my pops is from Ukraine.

Yes I think its fun and no its not American, people do crap like that all the time all over the world.

Childish and immature oh fo sho! Causes any harm, no...

Why so serious?

It is kinda funny and certainly shouldn't have happened. Yet 4k cars that *might* be affected vs.

693,000 Honda Fits for bad valvetrain parts
145,000 Kias for bad airbags
89,000 MINIS for bad water pumps (plastic impeller pumps = big problems for BMWs and Audis)
32,000 Imprezas for bad brakes
162,000 VW/Audi TDI's for leaking fuel injectors
490,000 Subarus for bad wiper drive assemblies
1,500,000 Hondas for bad trannys
310,000 Hondas for bad seatbelts
100,000 Mazda3s for bad wiper electronics
800,000 Honda for bad airbags (resulting in at least one fatality)
10,000 Audi TTs for fuel leaks
85,000 Benz's for power steering loss
136,000 Benz's for cruise control

As just a few recent examples of recalls having nothing to do with GM or the UAW. Yet, no rants about any of this. Wonder why?

Cans in vacant masonry holes do no damage. A can in a fender well will rattle. It's people like those and the unions that keep them on the job, that drove the american auto industry into the ground with their indifference to performing a quality job..

I think what drove it into the ground was cheaper parts, and shotty electronics. Since Fords and Mazdas roll off the same line...

But hey that's just me and clearly I am an immature A-hole.

The recalls you've cited are related to defects whereas this one is for parts that are absent (Missing in action ). It's just much more open to people's humor.

Paul.
