Ford starts manufacture of new 3.5l Duratec

http://www.limaohio.com/story.php?IDnum=26616

The new engine, responsible for the retention of 780 jobs in Lima, will initially go into four 2007 models, which are crossover sport utility vehicles for Ford, Lincoln and Mazda, as well as a Lincoln sedan.

Is this the 250HP V6 I heard about?

Wouldn't it be great if they made the next Mazda6 RWD to match this engine....

^Oh I Know, I just dislike FWD. If you think of it, while yes Mazda does a good job making sporty FWD car's....RWD fits Mazda better. I wonder if one day they would do the switch?

I doubt it. AWD is the way forward with Ford and all it's branches. Most all their sedans and derivatives will have it. Easier to package and design for with existing platforms.

FWD is the way to go for bread and butter vehicles, its cheaper to manufacture.

Mazda will never ever make the Mazda 3 or 6 a RWD period.

Why must "the way forward" use existing platforms?

Why does Ford continue to associate the Duratec name with new engines? It does not carry with it any inherent reputation for performance, flexibility, torquiness or refinement? At best the duratec has been mediocre, if not sub-par to the competition in just about every regard. I think they'd be better served to at least slap a better sounding name on the next engine, even if it's not all that much different or better in it's higher displacement form.
