I bet it's the center console that is a ford part. Especially the lid.

I hate ford because I bought a taurus with 60K miles on it for 3,000 bucks, had to put another 1000 in to fix it, constantly had to add antifreeze because it spit it all over the engine, then the damn thing blew up in about 2 months.

NEVER BUY A CAR WITH 60K Miles.

That means that the car is out of Warrenty, and someone sold it because it was a LEMON!

NEVER EVER EVER EVER BUY a 60k Miles Car. Or one that is about to go out of Warrenty.

I bought a Lexus with 56k miles, and the engine leaked oil onto the muffler, they put some sort of engine leak stop in it so it didn't do it until the Warrenty ran out. Then I spend like 2k on the engine and finally sold it.

Don't blame Ford, Blame you for buying a 60k car with issues.

Ford > Lexus IMHO. My dad has 4 fords all with 190k + miles and no problems.

Oh yea I have a F150, first production year, it has 98k miles and not a single issue. It doesn't even burn oil as it is supposed to, after 70k miles. My only complaint with it is that is has too little HP, for the big 454 engine, but I'm about to get a Chip for it.

Well maybe you should reevaluate why you think so.

I find it to be perfectly reasonable advice, especially for the reasons mentioned. BUying used cars is fine.... American, Japanese or European... don't expect much from them if they have over 60k miles and/or are over 5 years old. Having no money is having no money, but I'd stay away from used cars over 2-3 years old. Even then... no sports cars. HOw many people on this forum talk about dragging, autocrossing, etc. in their 8? Do you really want to buy that car after they've put 60k on it?

redrx82004 probably should rethink that. Ford buys their parts from suppliers. Those same suppliers also supply other car makers as well as Ford... and I do mean Ford GROUP. In addition there is pleny fo sharing between makers... Toyota and GM... Buy a HOnda... opps that wiper motor was made the same line as the ones sent to Ford. See the problem...

not true the engine in the 6 has a ford bottom with a completelly reworked Mazda top. Ford likes the Mazda version so much they are going to use it on some ford models.

no ford washers becaue ford doesnt make washers. they buy them from someone else. so dont worry about those:D

now the glass- doesnt ford solely own like the biggest producer of automotive glass -i.e. windshields. i understood that just afew years ago the company-who's name i cant remember- was the only one who could produce windshields with soem of the compound curves we have today. is this still true? i believe they supply glass to most if not all of the auto makers.

You want an open brag about a good car ok here comes a couple.

My parents have a Nissian sentra (1992) got it used about 4 years old, it now has 325,000 miles on it, ya you read right 325,000. (and yes it has problems but it still runs and is a semi reliable ride).

My dad had a 1979 chevy half ton 305 v8 3 speed stick, it went 250,000 miles with out one major costly problem.

Sorry last off-topic post. He's generalizing and you find that "reasonable":

'NEVER BUY A CAR WITH 60K Miles. That means that the car is out of Warrenty, and someone sold it because it was a LEMON!'

You were right about the having no money is having no money and I probably wouldn't buy a sports car >60k miles. But, again everybody's situation is different. I bought my first car at 58k miles 5 years old. And the owner sold it because they bought an suv. Car ran perfect and used it another 60k and 5 years until I upgraded. Sorry, not all cars for sale over 60k are lemons. I'm sure you can find lots of great cars at there > 60k especially here in Florida with many a old people.

Looks like we can add the Ford Escape and some Mazda Tributes to ford's recall woes. Just saw the story on CNN this morning. Nearly 500,000 units are being recalled.

Something about a tab in the seatbelts can fail, also something about the trunk/tailgate popping open during a crash. And a problem with the accelerator. Freaking crazy.

The only thing I found on the NHTSA website was for the accelerator cable:
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES BUILT WITH 3.0L V6 ENGINES, THE ACCELERATOR CABLE MAY PREVENT THE THROTTLE FROM RETURNING TO THE IDLE POSITION.

Consequence:
AN UNEXPECTED INCREASE IN ENGINE IDLE SPEED MAY INCREASE STOPPING DISTANCE AND MAY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
