Engine belt making squeaky noises on protege

02 protege, 82.4k miles.

Engine belt is starting to make a squeaky noise, i'm sure this is common with many japanese cars when they get this kind of mileage. Not sure whether or not to take it into the dealership or if its something that can be easily fixed in my auto shop class or even at home.

Will be asking my teacher tomorrow as well since hes a pretty knowledgeable guy. But there are a few on these forums as well.

( and yes i know i have to replace belt at around 100k miles but 82.4 seems premature for that sort of thing. )

My 02 Protege has the exact miles but I changed my belts at 60k with my timing belt, cam and crank seals. It runs like a top. I also change my oil every 2500 miles and drive the snott out of it. I think you got a lot out of your belts for Japanese or domestic, heck for German even. The only thing that seemed pre-mature to me in terms of failure on my car was front wheel bearings which were bad around 70k.

Paul.
