all of those extreme sports have valid scoring systems - u can do a trick in skating and then u can do it unnatural/switch for more points - if u r even postulating that skating/surfing is a not a sport then u r a complete idiot.......

I hate the way drifting was marketed in the US. They invited out a bunch of ricey freakin' Xtreme kids that have never been on an actual road course and sell it to them as the "in" thing to do. Then they sell thier civics for 240SX's and call themselvs good drivers. Those people end up representing drifting and destroy the entire skill aspect of the (event/sport pick one). All you get now is a bunch of "yo my drift iz da tightest. yo I b gettin' 22's for my onevia phat slick yo" I hate that crap but I love drifting and it's some of the most fun I have had with ym 8, so I have to deal with all of the crap in order to enjoy it. It's like what fast and furious did to the entire street scene. It used to be a bunch of people just hanging out talking about car stuff. Now all you get is a bunch of posers. Rant over.

I'm just upset at the impact drifting is making. Now kids are doing illegal drift attempts in parking lots on Fridays. I think it's overglorified. Maybe the media blew it out of proportion, like Super Street. I remember they had some drifting articles dating back to, I believe, 2001. No one payed attention to it, but then it just started exploding as of recently, and now it's as popular, if not, more than AutoX, drag racing (I'll accept that), SCCA events, etc. It's a fad, and I hope it dies down before I see some Honda Civic plow into the Old Navy near my house.
If you think drifting is a bad influence on kid driver. how about real racing? dose that not promote kids weaving in and out of traffic after the car ahead of them??? at least when drifting there doing it in a controlled environment like a parking lot.

i haven't seen anyone defend initial D... i mean... granted 4th stage sucked, but everything up to the movie was kinda cool and you always have someone going DOORIIIIFTOOOO!!!

that just makes everything better... watch the original robocop and everytime they turn try yelling DOORIIIIFTOOOO!!! it makes it even funnier :p

that being said drifting is cool but it's just another motorsport, nothin to get bent out of shape about

to prove my point i have provided a link to something ridiculous and yes that is an old school firbird:

The way I feel at least is that while drifting itself may be legit, the pop-culturalization (is that a word?) of it where every kid (including my roommate, who has never owned a car yet considers himself an authority ) thinks it's the be-all and end-all of auto racing is highly annoying. I blame F&F3.

Example: I was sitting here watching a video of some guys blowing an FC RX-7's engine in neutral. He looks over my shoulder and says "I dunno why you'd do that unless you were getting it ready for DRIFT!!"

...huh?

Or, when I'm watching Top Gear and they're testing, say, an Audi... "Does he ever drift it!?"

....no.

Or, borrowing my NFS game... "Doood how do you drift across the finish line!?"

....give me my game back.

Yes, all these quotes are real.

So, yeah, go nuts, drift all you want, but you won't see me doing it, and I could really stand to hear about it a little less. Especially from the "posers" if you will.

Drifting is fun to watch, fun to experience but it gets annoying when some idiot try it after watching some movies or anime. Its not like something one can accomplish in a short time, many can drift but not like the drift king performing a clean drift in a stock underpowered car. I got into cars coz of drifting but slowly it change into something like respect for it as whatever you wanna call it, sport or not. Its something like I don't enjoy drag race but I respect the people who does it with proper prep and equipment.
