Door Courtesy Lamp Socket?

My driver's side door courtesy lamp socket broke (one of the retaining tabs). After contacting Mazda....they tell me that they don't sell a replacement part, but only the entire door harness. I've searched but haven't really found anything - next step is to cut the socket and take it and see if I can get it matched up at a local parts store. Has this happened to anyone else, and if so is there a replacement socket out there? Thanks.

Mine did this.

I cut a little piece of sheet metal the shape of the opening (behind) and cut a slot in it a little smaller than the socket. Then worked the socket into the slot and made sure it stuck. I then riveted the metal to the plastic. Just pop the lens to change the bulb. My socket was broken along with the hole it went into. The bulb came lose, then melted the plastic. Sorry, no pictures..

Thanks, interesting idea. I didn't have a meltdown so my plastic is still fine on the door. I have the socket secured with some good VHB tape, so when it fails, I'll come up with something.
