Long Beach would take it, F1 wants a glitizy race and does not even consider Long Beach.

The streets it races on and most of the immediate surrounding area is pretty nice... its just when you go a little further inland do things get messy.

A damn shame though because it would be magical...

They wanted Vegas in the worst way but wanted too much $ to hold it here.

With more and more places in teh world wanting F1 and having them build F1 specific venues to race at just to prove it, I don't think there's hope of a decent F1 race in the US again for quite some time. The season just isn't long enough for them to fit in any good races here and let's face it, we don't have much to offer them compared to what they can race on elsewhere and I'm including the sophistication and appreciation of US race fans in on that. If F1 exclusively turned left, it would work here. Wait a minute, that's called IRL and no one goes to those races. Nevermind.

We do have a lot to offer F1. The largest consumer market in the world. The problem is F1 doesn't want to bend to get to that market. Just look at how they treated Scott Speed and Indianapolis. F1 has an anti-U.S. bias.

Maybe you can get the F1 race from Melbourne Australia, I think Melbourne are tired of losing about 30 million a year on it.

At least the Surfers Paradise street race Cart/IRL event is still a go, they signed an new 6 year deal a couple of days ago. It is always a big money spinner for Cart. Though this year because of Chicago has in their contact that they get the last points race of the year, this years race does not count towards the championship points.

I miss the days of Andy Granatelli, turbine-powered cars that was racing. If you could build it and keep it on the track you could race it.

Everybody here is quick to jump on TG, but Champ Car pretty much put themselves in a position where a take over was emminent. Let's see,

1. Musical chair drivers/lack of identity
2. Canceling races
3. 6 week long gaps in the schedule
4. Horrible TV coverage
5. Absolutely no major sponsors

So with all that, how did anyone expect CC to survive? The NASCAR model is successful for couple of reasons. Mainly, sponsorship and driver identification. CC was sorely lacking and are now a part of racing history.

I know there are plenty of NASCAR bashers lurking around, but the series has talent that open wheel teams would take on in a second.

I'll be harsh against Tony George because he's a douche, not because CC had flaws. IRL has flaws too. The first mistake was to split the series in the first place. It's all been downhill since then. That was the day US open wheel racing died. Now it's going to take years to bring it back to life assuming it can be done at all.

The NASCAR model is successful for one simple reason. Americans as a whole are not sophisticated enough to appreciate true talent and racing. This applies to our crappy popular forms of racing and even in our crappy mass produced wussie beer. If you make it simple and stupid enough, Americans will love it.

A talented driver in NASCAR isn't there for the fun of it. They are there for one reason and one reason only. Money.
