Car Lust

Please tell me I am wrong and shallow! The more I read and see pictures of Porsche 997 I am tempted to give up the 8 and go over to the dark side. I know the price is outrageous but I might test drive one. Anyone checked out the car in the flesh?

You guys are pushing the right buttons! I am definitely going to check it out. Has different character than the 8. I do not want to be perceived as "Porsche Driver" since alot of them are A**holes but there must be some who are OK.

I've seen one in the flesh, err metal, and I lust after one as well. I never really cared for the 996, but had 993 lust too.

However, having bought two previous cars in the $60-$80K price range, I've learned that I can love a $30k car (i.e. RX-8) just as much as a$70k one. For me, there are many nice cars in the $30-$55k range that I think I'd be just as happy with.

For now, I'm quite content with my RX-8. Longer term, maybe in about 5 years or so, I may just cave in and get that 911. But if at that time my RX-8 is still running strong, I'll keep her and perhaps hand over the keys to my son.

I love that little lap timer they have built in, cool ****.

I would love a porsche. But, I am of the philosphy that if I am going to own a sports car, it will not be my only car. Knowing that, I would want the GT3, maybe RS. Only point of those cars is to get from A to B as fast as possible, and really, thats what a sport car is all about. If I want luxury, I'll get a 7 series.

Do it, if you have the means to do it.

You are only talking about the absolute best enthusiast's mode of daily transportation.

What the hell are you talking about WACKeech? I am completely aware Ferrari has built its reputation on years and years of racing success, not because they use V8's or V12's in their road cars. If you dont know what your talking about dont respond. Really? What Porsche BLOWS AWAY a Ferrari in a straight line or on a race-track? The Carerra GT has been eaten up by the Enzo in every single way...even efficiency, the Enzo is a super-exotic yet it is refined enough to take on long trips, like a grand-tourer would.

No Porsche is equivalent to any Ferrari ever made, they are always one step below, always have been, always will be. Every manufacturer seems so bitter at the fact that Ferrari has had so much success and has always been considered the most elite of the sports-car manufacturers. Porsche shows its ignorance by building an SUV, something Ferrari would never ever do. Enzo would roll over in his grave.

So PLEASE STFU...you know nothing about this.

What Porsche blows away Ferrari? All of them, including the company and especially the SUV.

In sales.

The GT3 is also about the equal of the 360 CS when it comes to performance it is quite a bit cheaper. Also, the 959 surpassed any Ferrari from that time period and the 993 Porsche turbo was a much better car than anything Ferrari had to offer in the same price range of the time. When it came to build quality Porsche ahead of Ferrari for many years, and like was just pointed out surpass Ferrari in sales by a wide margin.

Exactly, which makes Ferrari's even more exclusive. Porsche's you see every single day of the year...four or more a day. You cannot say that about Ferrari's. It seems like nowadays anybody can afford a Porsche, $25,000 can get you a good, clean, used Boxster. Pathetic.

The only Porsche that is even comparable (but one or more steps behind) is the GT3 RS...the GT3 will get anihilated by the CS on any surface. The RS is just an upgraded version with a little more grunt. It still cant keep up with the CS though where it matters....everywhere.

Did you really just say Porsche has better build quality than Ferrari? Are you out of your skull man? This discussion has to end now, we are getting nowhere. I hate it when people talk like this when they have never even had a chance in real-life to compare them. Dont try to defend yourself on what magazine's say, it really shows your ignorance and immaturity.

You say the 959 surpassed any Ferrari from that time period....hmm, ever heard of the F40? You know, that twin-turbocharged V12 beast? You've lost it...if you think the 959 is a better car than that you must be possesed by Ferdinand himself.

Look, I'm not hating on Porsche because I think they make great sports cars...however, they are simply not in the same league as Ferrari's.
