officially official today

and Saturn will become whatever its going to be by the end of this year- the consensus is that dealers will by it and use it to sell cars from brands not currently in the states. Sort of like a Target for cars. One or 2 from Opel maybe something from Geely or Chery something from Seat maybe even a Fiat or 2. Who knows maybe even Peugeot and Renault.

I think once you down size GM and Chrysler goes away, Mazda's market share might finally climb above 5% Its still about 3 right now.
I wonder if they will use Saturn to sell Holden?

Kinda sad... I liked the G8 and solstice, but Im guessing that this will just mean less re-badged cars & probably the same line-up

So glad GM sold the company I work for ~5 years back

Im reading Holden will lose a BILLION a year of revenue from this- how will they survive that? They'll have to find someone else to build cars for or they are done too.

Holy crap there are a lot of scary statements in that article:

hey would get 225 shares, worth $414 as of Friday’s close, for every $1,000 in debt that they hold.

The closures would represent more than one out of every 10 car dealerships in the United States.

G.M. would either sell or shut down its Saturn brand by the end of this year, about two years earlier than it previously had said. Two other brands, Hummer and Saab, will be sold off or closed soon.

he closure of Pontiac, which was introduced in 1926, will leave G.M. with four brands in the United States: Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC

The Treasury and the U.A.W. would own up to 89 percent of the company’s outstanding shares,

Yes, America must appeal to its owners.
(I wish I were joking...)

Yup. Been there seen it. But they are not the same models sold in the US. I actually wish they sold them here. It actually might have been a good move to sell off the Buick name and facilities to a Chinese company. They might have gotten a good price for it.

Edit: Just researched and found out that for the first time in January there were more cars sold in China than the US. whoa...http://www.chinastakes.com/story.aspx?id=992 Mainly due to the slump in our market coinciding with the Q1 holiday boom in theirs. So not really sustainable but still very cool to see.

Pontiac hasn't "made" any appealing cars since the Firebird. Their interesting cars are sourced from some garage in the outback or old factories that used to build Panzer tanks.

On my local news yesterday, Holden's are saying they will find "other" markets for their export program and believe the cars still could be re badged of the re-badge to Chevrolet?, but yeah without this small car coming GMH is doomed.

Single shifts start Tomorrow, a week on and a week off.

Yep, it is their "Other" market Holden's want, BUT, do you think GM would allow this and do you think the American Public would like an Aussie Made Cop Car?

In my state, where they are made Holden's fit the cars out very well with all the spec's any State police force ask for.
They are by far the most popular Cop Car here, then the Ford Falcon at Number Two.

There is even talk Ford Australia want to get into the act of making Cop cars for the USA, but, REALLY Ford Australia do not even make a LHD Falcon for any market, so I don't think they are going to do it for a Police Force.

Having said that Ford Australia needs to resume a "worthwhile" export program, the last time I can remember was the FWD Ford Capri....what a disaster that thing was, trying to compete with the MX-5/Miata!

I think Holden could just breath through there nose and figure out how to build a better cop car than the 1970's vintage Crown Vic's the US cops have to deal with from Ford. They are possibly the oldest most out of date vehicle on American roads today and our police force has to use them for potentially dangerous work on a regular basis.
